Kyle Rittenhouse was working as a community lifeguard in Kenosha on the day of the shooting, went to clean graffiti off a public high school near the Kenosha County Courthouse after work and did not carry a gun across state lines, according to a statement from his legal defense team released on Friday evening.
=====
He continued: "Later in the day, they received information about a call for help from a local business owner, whose downtown Kenosha auto dealership was largely destroyed by mob violence. The business owner needed help to protect what he had left of his life's work, including two nearby mechanic's shops. Kyle and a friend armed themselves with rifles due to the deadly violence gripping Kenosha and many other American cities, and headed to the business premises. The weapons were in Wisconsin and never crossed state lines."

Thank you for the smile.....
Coming to this story a little late. Is there a video of this incident?
So how many adults do you know that have been trained in mob control. The government gave ME an M16 at 17 ... so dude give it a rest you look like an ass with this.
Remember, this was the state where they had the "John Doe" PERSECUTIONS (note the correct word) with a rabid DA and complicit state judge doing 4am raids on GOP family homes for legal, 1st Amendment political speech. After years of litigation and the Wisconsin Supreme Court eviscerating the prosecution and the US Supreme Court refusing the Wisconsin prosecutors appeal, NO ONE WAS PUNISHED & NO DAMAGES WERE AWARDED for a raid far more reminiscent of Gestapo and Stazi tactics!
> There is far more to the legal system than this. A grand jury hasnt returned a bill have they? <
Very true about the legal system. Its a maze of procedures. In my neck of the woods, a grand jury isnt necessary to charge someone with a felony. A DA will use it only if he wants some sort of political cover.
I looked it up. Like many states, Wisconsin rarely uses grand juries. And I find that interesting. The Fifth Amendment requires a grand jury! Maybe some FR lawyer can explain how that all works.
He was there with older friends (making it legal for him to carry) guarding his friends business PRIVATE PROPERTY ... that makes the law invalid where he was at. That also includes where he had to go when chased. ... and just like several 17 year olds did here in Arizona when BLM showed up he LEGALLY borrowed a weapon to stand guard on PRIVATE PROPERTY. Though a person has to be 21 to be a full militia member ... several members have 17-18 year old teenage children that attend various events and training with the Militia.
> So how many adults do you know that have been trained in mob control. <
Its not the training as much as the emotional maturity. Thats nothing against Rittenhouse! Older folks are usually more careful in their judgement. Thats one reason the Founders put age requirements in the Constitution.
> The government gave ME an M16 at 17 ... <
And they put you through considerable training in its use.
Side note: Please notice that although I strongly disagree with you, I never insulted you. In the past I have read many posts that I know are just completely wrong. Crazily wrong. But I have never once insulted any of those posters. Instead I try to gently correct them. I think thats the right thing to do.
It was well after dark so what videos and photos there are will need tech enhancement to be clearer. That will be followed by each side presenting their own interpretations and accusations! This whole thing is going to be a circus that will play in 2021-22 probably. I will remind all that photos and videos CAN just be tools to reinforce conclusion locked in long before a trial.
There was a very clear video of a white Ford Bronco in a LONG police chase with an almost universal comment about the guilty fleeing. That video and other evidence was (sorry) trumped by excellent defense lawyers, lots of money, near incompetent prosecution, a racially charged courtroom (defense tactic) and a rhyming couplet, "If the gloves don't fit, You must acquit!"
OH BS ... I was on the range with that M16 with very little training. We have 17 year old guests (children of members) come shoot with us and many know more about firearms than most untrained adults. Many show more maturity than your average BLM adult. How do you know that Kyle did not have similar weapons training? I did not insult you. I gave you friendly advice of how you were and are looking ... at least to me.
For my own edification please point out where the constitution EXPLICITLY (not by inference) sets an age limit on the 2nd amendment. I suppose that you have an idea of how many 17 and younger people fought in the Revolutionary/Civil/WW1/WW2/Korean/ and even Vietnam wars. They seemed to be plenty mature enough.
> I was on the range with that M16 with very little training. <
I hope you will at least agree that you were under close supervision the entire time. From what I could see from the video, Rittenhouses friends left him high and dry. And again, that is not a knock against Rittenhouse. Its a knock against his friends who put him in that position.
> We have 17 year old guests (children of members) come shoot with us and many know more about firearms than most untrained adults. <
Youbetcha. Some of the younger folks at my gun club are quite responsible with firearms. But I would put none of them in the front lines against a mob.
> I did not insult you. I gave you friendly advice... <
Thats quite a spin. But if you really think that sort of language is okay, I guess well just have to agree to disagree.
> For my own edification please point out where the constitution EXPLICITLY (not by inference) sets an age limit on the 2nd amendment. <
That is a great question! And it is yet another case where I wish the Founders had been more explicit. The sticking point is, of course, the phrase well-regulated. Too many liberal states twist that phrase all out of its original meaning.
I would agree with you that 16 or 17 would seem to be reasonable age. But that doesnt mean a 16-year-old kid has the same emotional maturity as someone whos, say, 35.
Again, Im not arguing that Rittenhouse did anything wrong. Im saying his buddies should not have dragged him into this situation.
Second ... I guess you have either some VERY immature 17 year olds or you have little faith in them. Like I said ... how many 17 year olds and younger have served in the military with distinction ... in case you didn't know Audie Murphy was one. BTW ass is short for jackass ... if that offends you language wise... you have bigger problems. As I said, I did NOT call you an ass ... I said you were looking like one to me ... I stand by that statement ... however that position is rapidly evolving
He seems like a good kid who got caught up in a bad situation. I wish him the best possible outcome from all of this.
He looks like a good kid. Where was the owners of the property he was defending? They should of had a plan if the situation gets hot how they can protect themselves or quickly retreat. Kyle appeared to realize that after shooting the first dirt bag and calling for help that the crowd was going to over run him. He needed shelter in the building or his group with guns to give him cover. I hope he gets off quickly and pray Trump gets elected.
Are you a veteran ? Have you been in combat? The buddy system works well but not flawlessly. I suspect that Kyle had a “buddy” as well. But in the fog of war buddys can and do get separated. We in my “group” train for that possibility. It happens even to the most experienced.
You made some very good points in your posts to me. But it was a bit hard to sort them out because of the insults. And yes, they were insults. If you really dont think they were, try using that language in a reply to JimRob.
And your language really doesnt offend me. At my advanced age Ive heard it all, at least twice. So offend is not the right word. Maybe distract is better.
Ive got to go outside and pull some weeds now. Between the deer and the weeds I dont have much of a garden left. But I keep on trying. So Ill give you the last word if you wish.
OK ... peace ... I’m posting to an FB site full of leftists and their lies about Kyle at the same time I’m talking with you. Perhaps some of that anger towards them has encroached into our discussion.
A hat tip to you for that gracious reply.
Regards,
LR
Your post, #30, is a reasonable way to lay it out, with possible time in jail awaiting trial. As it is, hes not being extradited out of Illinois, yet. Also, the charge is way over the top and will need to be changed to have any credibility of being sustained. Finally, hes a minor they want to call an adult, but even that can be shifted back to being a minor.
Any time spent in juvie is a travesty. He potentially killed criminals and potentially injured one, but they went after him, first.
He should be lauded.
