In the end, we all know what Judas did.
Big Jim Thompson will likely be voting Democrat now.
You can’t get much swampier than an Ill-Annoy RINO from The Combine.
Bricker wasn’t gonna get in Taft’s way.
I say it should have been MacArthur.
MacArthur was occupied by other matters in 1948. Ideally, had he not been killed, Gen. Patton would’ve been the top pick for 1948. He’d have been magnificent and he’d have let MacArthur drive on into Red China and install Chiang’s Nationalists. It would’ve been a different and better outcome for the planet. Everything has just gone so wrong.
Alas, Patton did die, was he interested in running?
MacArthur had a campaign and seemed interested in the job. He refused however to take good advice, if he had I think he would have won.
And if course if Taft had got the nomination in ‘52 as he should have, MacArthur was a strong choice to be his running mate. He didn’t much run himself in ‘52 compared to ‘48, but again, I think he could have had it if he had.
Hell, should have nominated him in ‘44, forget about campaigning, surrogates could have done that for him.
I think I mentioned that book I’m reading to you, ‘History of the Republican Right since 1945’, informative stuff.
Patton was floated as a potential candidate. Returning from Europe, he would’ve been an enormous threat to Truman and the political establishment.
