The body of an off-duty Detroit firefighter who helped rescue swimmers in distress was recovered over the weekend by Detroit Police and Detroit Fire divers, according to a tweet from the Michigan State Police for the Metro Detroit region.
Another person also jumped into the lake with Johnson and was able to rescue one girl, and a nearby boat in the area was able to rescue the other two, he said. A hero who risked his life to save others. RIP.
Damn.
Just damn.
In front of his little girl.
Rest In Peace.
STRAIGHT TO HEAVEN!!
No greater love!
May God grant him peace in heaven.
It is so dangerous jumping in the water to save another drowning person.
Most folks are not that good a swimmer or properly trained.
You don’t know why they are drowning and it may cause you to drown - tides, electrocuted, etc.
Drowning folks will drown you in an attempt not to drown in panic.
Reach, throw, row, go...
bttt
WHAT!?
This is very good advice, I was a lifeguard and you need to instruct the victim properly or you both can die.in a river or windy waterway, you should always have a flotation device.
Huh?
God Bless this brave firefighter and prayers for his grieving family.
No greater love.
What are you talking about?
Headline says river, article says lake. So which was it?
Yep. I’m a decent swimmer, and when doing LG training (you have to go save a person), I learned to DIVE, go under if you have to, to get away from the paniced person. Even the big, strong opponents let go. It’s a brutal endeavor, and your instincts can take you right to the jaws of death. I’d kick the person I was saving in the jewels, if I had to.
