PR is a beautiful island.
A low impact industry like pharm is right for them.

We get quite a bit of food from China.

Stupid idea. I don’t give a sh!t about anything that doesn’t bring jobs back to the USA. It’s MAGA and not MPRGA.

PR is not a state in the union. Wow what BS. Plus if it were a state it would be 90% Democrap anyway.

Ask folks who had no Saline solution for months after Maria took out the facility that made it.

Putting eggs in PR is not a good plan either.

It not a good idea because it would not employ US citizens in the USA.

PR is not a state in the union, and neither is Washington, DC. There is one big difference, DC pays federal income taxes, in fact pays a higher percentage than at least 22 states. Also, DC has over 700,000 population, more than Vermont and Wyoming. Why should the 700,000 DC residents NOT have the right to be represented in Congress and help determine how their tax money is spent. Is that fair?

My son told me something interesting about big companies that do business in PR. Apparently big companies provide instructions and products to all their outlets on the mainland and in PR based on the season. So, as an example, Walmart would be sending PR overcoats in Winter, and Home Depot would be providing snow shovels. I don’t remember if these were the exact examples he told me, but you get the idea.

The reason DC is not a state is obvious. The founders realized the capitol city would always have a conflict of interest. The people in DC would always vote for more and more largess. Life isn’t always fair. Get over it.

So that’s it DC home of the brave, taxpayers, and no representation for 700,000 people. Since they have no say in how their money is used they should be exempt from any military service. I wonder what soldiers, like my son currently serving in Afghanistan would think about your opinion “Life isn’t always fair. Get over it.” He doesn’t live in DC, but I think he believes the Constitution should include fairness even if it takes a while to get there, as it did for African Americans and women. So I guess the IRS 1040 taxpayers in DC are lower than blacks and women.

Didn’t pharms open up in PR only to close because there were not enough qualified people to do the work. The educational requirement was such the industry could not function

Hi gleeaikin, I have heard the same thing, but I only spend two to 4 weeks a year on the island so I can’t really say. I will ask some family and friend who live there to see what they say.

Well, America’s Founding Fathers decided, when they wrote the Constitution, that it was imperative that the center of government was not in a state. In America’s early post-Revolution days, it would see several different temporary centers of government, all of them northern cities like Philadelphia and New York. While drafting the Constitution in 1787, the Founding Fathers decided that the new nation should have a permanent capital. But they were reluctant to give that much power to one single state.

So they wrote in Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution that “[The Congress shall have Power] To exercise exclusive Legislation…over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may…become the Seat of the Government of the United States.” The article also stated that this 100-mile district would come from land ceded by the states so that the new seat of government would be independent of any state. Check out more facts about U.S. history you didn’t learn in school.
