Cincinnati Reds announcer Thom Brennaman said a homophobic slur between innings during a game Wednesday night, leading to his removal from the broadcast for the remainder of the game.
Ahead of the seventh inning in the Cincinnati teams game against the Kansas City Royals, Brennaman was heard saying the slur.
During the second game of the team's doubleheader, Brennaman apologized for the slur on the air.
I made a comment earlier tonight, that I guess went out over the air, that I am deeply ashamed of. If I have hurt anyone out there, I cant tell you how much I say from the bottom of my heart that I am so very, very sorry, Brennaman said.
I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith, he said, before stopping to announce a home run in the game.
I cant begin to tell you how deeply sorry I am. That is not who I am and it never has been," he continued. "Id like to think maybe I could have some people that can back that up. I am very, very sorry, and I beg for your forgiveness, he said.

In all seriousness, we have to move beyond this permanent ostracizing of people for using a word that is deemed offensive.
Do we really want to live in a society where people are 'wished into the cornfield' and deemed unable to ever make a living again over uttering a word? How about just issuing an apology, making a donation to a charity and moving on?
On the flip side of this; an actual elected official in Minnesota can show up in a suburban neighborhood with a bullhorn outside of the home of a police union chief and use threatening, racial invective towards him, his family and towards all of the white residents in the town with no consequences whatsoever.
Ir is the producers job to make sure the announcer knows when he is live.
If Brennaman is fired the producer should be going with him.
He has cost the radio channel a skilled and loved sports caster.
Apparently the producer cut in the microphone early and did not give Brennaman a count down to live.
