WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Russia used Republican political operative Paul Manafort, the WikiLeaks website and others to try to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election to help now-U.S. President Donald Trumps campaign, a Senate intelligence panel report said on Tuesday.
WikiLeaks played a key role in Russias effort to assist Republican Trump against Democrat Hillary Clinton and likely knew it was helping Russian intelligence, said the report, which is likely to be the most definitive public account of the 2016 election controversy.
The report found President Vladimir Putin personally directed the Russian efforts to hack computer networks and accounts affiliated with the Democratic Party and leak information damaging to Clinton.
The panel, formally called the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, also alleged Manafort collaborated with Russians, including oligarch Oleg Deripaska and an alleged Russian intelligence operative, Konstantin Kilimnik, before during and after the election.
The panel found Manaforts role and proximity to Trump created opportunities for Russian intelligence, saying his high-level access and willingness to share information with individuals closely affiliated with the Russian intelligence services... represented a grave counterintelligence threat.
It was not clear what effect, if any, the report might have on the current U.S. presidential campaign in which Trump faces Democrat Joe Biden in the Nov. 3 U.S. election.
Opinion polls show former vice president Biden has built an expansive lead in nearly every battleground state that Trump won narrowly in 2016, as the Republicans approval numbers tumble amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Russia has been trying to influence our elections since the 50’s.
Big Media wants to be able to report this as a “shadow” on Trump’s Presidency. Did the article tell us which Senators signed off on this attack?
No, tbey did not.
“Insurance plan” if the pedophile wins?
Back to the late “great” Ace McCain.
This committee is led by the feckless Richard Burr, is populated with RINOs Collins, Sasse, Cornyn, etc. and Communists Feinstein, Wyden and, drum roll, Kommunist-Allah Harris.
I smell Romney.
Horse Manure. Hillary was bought out a long time ago. Why would Putin want an honest man in office?
Senate idiots, so pure and righteous. What fools.
It always begs the question: why?
Why on earth would Putin *want* President Trump elected? It flies in the face of simple logic.
Are dems prepared to argue that Putin *wanted* sanctions against Russia to be ratcheted up?
Or that Putin is really happy that W Europe is freeing itself from him, buying oil from America? Particularly when Putinland has no other exports.
Perhaps Im just not smart enough to get it.
Such bullshit. If the Republican party gave Trump the slightest support, it’s hard to imagine what he could have accomplished.
Yeah right. I truly believe that Russia actively worked against the candidate that they had funneled over $145 million to over the years.
This is extremely OLD NEWS. The Senate Intelligence Committee did issue a report stating some of these “lies” a while back. The RINO, Richard Burr, was head of that committee and allowed Mark Warner (Dem.) to do whatever he wanted to do. Really sad! Read Sundance at theconservativetreehouse.com
The Uniparty Bureau Of Making Stuff Up swears that Russia helped Trump win.
There is absolutely no evidence! Sickening! The only ones that worked for Russia? All the traitors involved in URANIUM ONE.
Did new polls come out?
So this is simply more BS and propaganda, this time from the US Senate Intelligence Committee.

check out sen warner’s contacts with the crooked pols in Ukraine & it’s easy to see how the USSIC can produce CYA propaganda like this.
This was a hoax from the beginning. Using Russia was a way to get some conservative people onboard because of leftover Cold War feels, and using the word “hacked” was a way to scare old people whose knowledge of the subject is from a 25 year old Sandra Bullock movie. Hoax. Top to bottom.
