You witnessed aerosol going right through the mask material. Poor fit has no effect on that.

SARS-CV-2 is the name of the virus.
COVID-19 is the name of the sickness.
Every cloth or surgical mask is poorly fitted. That is the point. A mask is only effective if:
- It is sealed, meaning no leaks around the edges, all the inhaled and/or exhaled air is forced through the filter material.
- It will filter out the virus
Unless you are fitted for a respirator type mask (N95, N99, etc...) no mask is sealed.
The virus is ~0.1 micron. Look it up on he CDC website.
The N95 type respirator masks are rated based on the % of particulates they filter. An N95 filters 95%, an N99 filters 99%, etc... THEY ARE ONLY RATED DOWN TO 2.5 MICRONS. Go to OSHA and look up the ratings.
The SARS-CV-2 is TWENTY TIMES SMALLER than what the masks will filter. That is stone cold factual data.
Droplets and the Great Misinformation Gap
I wish the federal officials could be held criminally liable for the way they are misinforming everyone over the method of transmission. They are going to GREAT lengths to avoid declaring officially that SARS-CV-2 is an Aerosol Transmitted virus. Why?
When you sneeze, you expel mucous (snot) and tiny droplets of liquid. These are droplets. Masks stop droplets. No argument.
When you cough, you sometimes might expel a large glob of phlegm, or some larger droplets. Those would be stopped by a mask, too.
Here is where the medical people are intentionally deceiving and misleading everyone. They are calling this aerosol. But they are NOT explaining the differences in the sizes of aerosol droplets.

When you breath, you expel microscopic water droplets. Everyone does. These are aerosols. The doctors are including aerosols in with the droplet, but are not explaining the difference. Why? Because they can do nothing to stop the aerosols, and they don’t want to induce panic.
This is how the virus is spreading so easily. We don’t have hundreds of thousands of people coughing and sneezing right in the faces of healthy people. Remember, people are spreading it AND THEY DON’T EVEN HAVE SYMPTOMS YET! The virus is aerosol born. That means it is virtually unstoppable. Distance is the only way to stay away from.
