That was side-splitting! I didn’t appreciate Foster Brooks at the time because of my drunk uncles, but they are long departed now and that was hilarious. Brooks wasn’t a drunk in real life, and neither was the incredibly attractive Dean Martin.

I loved those shows and they still crack me up after all these years.

The insults and ethnic jabs, followed by laughter— it’s how earlier generations of melting pot Americans got along, with laughter. I’m amazed these roasts are still allowed on YT, but so glad they are. Today’s comedians have been stifled by the snowflakes and academics.

I shook Hubert Humphrey’s hand once. He came to FSU when I was in college and he was walking along the street shaking hands with students. He was a short chubby guy. I was a Poly Sci major and it was quite a thrill even though I disagreed with his politics. Today he would be a Republican.

I’m inclined to think no. The party moving left would have given him cover to move left also.

Robert Bork and Clarence Pendleton pointed out that he promised to eat the Civil Rights Act if it were ever used to justify quotas. He lived to see the day that it was but did not eat the Act. When bureaucrats and judges handed him a victory that he didn’t have to negotiate for, he saw no need to renegotiate the deal.
