When the coronavirus emerged in the U.S. this year, public health officials and advocates for the homeless...
... scrambled to move people into hotel rooms, thinned out crowded shelters and moved tents into designated spots at sanctioned outdoor camps.
[R]esearchers dont know why there appear to be so few outbreaks among the homeless.
More than 200 of an estimated 8,000 homeless people in San Francisco have tested positive for the virus, and half came from an outbreak at a homeless shelter in April. One homeless person is among the citys 69 deaths.
In other places with large homeless populations, the numbers are similarly low. In King County, which includes Seattle, more than 400 of an estimated 12,000 homeless residents have been diagnosed. In Los Angeles County, more than 1,200 of an estimated 66,000 homeless people have been diagnosed.
Its slightly higher in Maricopa County... where nearly 500 of an estimated 7,400 homeless people have tested positive, including nine who died.
Health experts say the numbers dont indicate how widespread the disease is or how it might play out long term. Its unknown how many people have died of conditions indirectly related to the virus. While the coronavirus may dissipate more easily outdoors than indoors, living outside has its own risks.
With public libraries and other places closed, homeless people say theyre short on food and water, restrooms and cash. In San Francisco, 50 homeless people died over an eight-week period in April and May twice the usual rate...
The rates at which homeless people have tested positive ...are all over the place...
Surveillance testing of more than 10,000 people at shelters and encampments nationwide has resulted in a rate just over 8%. But...over 200 testing events of homeless residents in five cities showed rates ranging from 0 to 66%.

IOW, this is not that big a deal virus.
They are outside a lot and probably have sufficient D3 levels.
If you can live on the street for a year, Rona can’t hurt you!
Early on the Bakersfield doc’s video talked about staying at home shut up in your house weakens your immunity in general.
Maybe we should hangout with homeless for an hour everyday!
Spending time outside is very important for good health. Locking down inside made people more vulnerable to whatever diseases were floating around when they finally got outside.
Coronavirus hasnt devastated Californias homeless population as many feared
“Yeah. Isn’t that something?”
This is all about the fake Chinese videos that were leaked in the beginning, portraying the virus as much more deadly than it really was.
This was done purposely by the Chinese to force us into a lockdown and to ruin our economy.
And now, no amount of science will convince people (Democrats) that the virus is a paper tiger.
Soooooo, I guess it isn't anywhere near as deadly as the creators intended.Bring Out Your DeadDarned near everything that comes from that benighted nation is junk, and doesn't last very long...
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
The false positive rate was 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's or one old farts life, it's worth it.
Fresh air, too.
It also hasn’t devastated the grocery and big box store workers, either.
These are segments of the population I’ve been asking about, for MONTHS!!
That if this China Virus is SOOOOO virulent, that we have to shut down the entire country....going on day 150 of 15 Days to Flatten the Curve.....why aren’t these segments of the population dropping like flies?
Because it isn’t.
The Teacher’s Unions need to be asked about this, as well.
Grocery workers have been exposed, for hours, by ALL ages, for months, and seem to be just fine.
I guess only Union members get it.
Assassination is not off the table.
Of course the blow-back from that will be a sight to behold.
535 lamp posts in Washington. Similar numbers near state capitals and city halls...
For most of the country, in march, outside made no difference for D3 levels.
The sun wasn’t at a high enough angle at that time of year to make D3 north of about 32N.
And if you aren’t outside during the *middle of the day* *without sunscreen*, it doesn’t matter how much outside time you get.
https://www.esrl.noaa.gov/gmd/grad/solcalc/azel.html
Solar elevation needs to be 50deg or greater before you make D3 from sun exposure.
This is not a high mortality pandemic. The death rate appears to be 0.1%. It got a lot of attention because it killed our most vulnerable members rather quickly. Once they’re dead, the virus is having a harder time killing people.
Probably BINGO!
And, those who exposed China Virus positive people to nursing homes, and, who’ve insisted on prolonged lock downs should face criminal charges.
And then there’s all that SUNSHINE 111
“They are not obese.”
Good point, but other health problems like alcohol, drugs, diabetes, heart disease, hepatitis, etc. probably overwhelm the obesity factor.
I’m sure lots of them have compromised immune systems, but maybe many of them have been exposed to all sorts of diseases and are somewhat immune to COVID.
A childhood friend is homeless near San Diego and he is seeing no Covid at all
I've often considered that possibility the past couple of months. I wouldn't put it past them. Their main objective is to pay back Trump after his get-tough on China policies.
All depends on how you calculate it. The denominator is the key.
If you use the entire population of the earth you get 0.001%
If you use everyone with a positive test result you get 3.6%
If you use everyone sick enough to get treatment you get 5.4%
Pick a number...
