Coronavirus hasn’t devastated California’s homeless population as many feared

When the coronavirus emerged in the U.S. this year, public health officials and advocates for the homeless...

... scrambled to move people into hotel rooms, thinned out crowded shelters and moved tents into designated spots at sanctioned outdoor camps.

[R]esearchers don’t know why there appear to be so few outbreaks among the homeless.

More than 200 of an estimated 8,000 homeless people in San Francisco have tested positive for the virus, and half came from an outbreak at a homeless shelter in April. One homeless person is among the city’s 69 deaths.

In other places with large homeless populations, the numbers are similarly low. In King County, which includes Seattle, more than 400 of an estimated 12,000 homeless residents have been diagnosed. In Los Angeles County, more than 1,200 of an estimated 66,000 homeless people have been diagnosed.

It’s slightly higher in Maricopa County... where nearly 500 of an estimated 7,400 homeless people have tested positive, including nine who died.

Health experts say the numbers don’t indicate how widespread the disease is or how it might play out long term. It’s unknown how many people have died of conditions indirectly related to the virus. While the coronavirus may dissipate more easily outdoors than indoors, living outside has its own risks.

With public libraries and other places closed, homeless people say they’re short on food and water, restrooms and cash. In San Francisco, 50 homeless people died over an eight-week period in April and May — twice the usual rate...

The rates at which homeless people have tested positive ...are all over the place...

Surveillance testing of more than 10,000 people at shelters and encampments nationwide has resulted in a rate just over 8%. But...over 200 testing events of homeless residents in five cities showed rates ranging from 0 to 66%.

Homeless people with delicate systems die early in their homeless period. The survivors are often tough as nails.

How these people live for years and years with all the alcohol and drugs they take is downright shocking. I would probably die in the first week just eating from the garbage can.

Living amongst garbage, fecal matter, urine, with rats for pets, tend to help build up immunity.

Wonder if it’s because they have a great immune system because they are exposed to many coronaviruses??

Need I provide a sarcasm tag if I suggest they’re likely to be models of responsibility when it comes to wearing face masks?

Homeless people tend to not make it to the vulnerable age group before the either die of an OD, get murdered, die of exposure, or find Jesus and stop the bad behavior that keeps them homeless. That and they catch every nasty bug under the sun so their immune system is well exercised.

They don't bunker down indoors.

They don't stay six feet apart.

They don't wear muzzles to rebreathe their exhale.

Dem/media:” “It’s because millions of tax dollars were spent to put them in fancy hotels and provide them with drugs, booze, and whores!”

Actually, I think their situations weed out the susceptible, and keeps their immune system tip-top... or else!

Coronavirus has failed to devastate anything the way it was feared it would. This is all about getting the #badorangeman. The fear doesn’t match the actual threat at all. Anyone still shilling this hoax is malicious. There were supposed to be bodies piled up on carts like a Monty Python scene by now.

..and provide them with drugs, booze, and whores!”

New CDC guidelines:

Use drugs, drink booze and solicit whores to prevent Covid-19.

That’s because these “researchers” whoever in the hell they are, are idiots. It’s the same reason farm kids don’t get near all the crap city slickers do.
