Chicagos famous Magnificent Mile, a major shopping district in the citys downtown, may be losing some of its longtime tenants. Chicago Alderman Raymond Lopez said the situation in Chicago is pretty sad at this point.
Were seeing a lot of the same mistakes from the end of May being re-performed again following this past weekends looting, Lopez said.
Lopez says that downtown Chicago has always been a major hub for business and a frequent place to visit by tourists. Now he fears that might no longer be the case.
The fear is spreading, the anxiety is spreading and were seeing individuals who used to see the downtown areas, like the crown jewel of our city, now wanting to leave, people who live there wanting to re-evaluate their choice in housing options and stores who were just starting to get past the main riots and looting thinking that they may not stay on the Magnificent Mile anymore, he said.
Chicago has been front and center during the nationwide protests and riots. President Donald Trump has been a vocal critic of the citys leadership for failing to control crime. On Sunday, downtown Chicago was overrun by looters with many high-end retailers being vandalized.
Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown held a press conference earlier this week to address the situation.
Criminals took to the streets with a confidence that there would be no consequences for their actions and I, for one, refuse to allow these cowardly acts to hold our city hostage, Brown said. CPD will not stand by as our beautiful downtown becomes someplace that people fear.
Lopez says that a number of elected officials want repercussions and accountability but they are outnumbered by leaders like Mayor Lori Lightfoot.
The problem is that our law enforcement, our mayor, and our states attorney have not been on the same page when it comes to the adjudication of justice in Chicago, Lopez said. The fact that States Attorney Kim Foxx is delusional in thinking that criminals who see no repercussions will be stopped simply because an activity is illegal shows how out of touch she is.
Even the Ronald McDonald House wasnt safe from the looters on Sunday.
SAD & UNACCEPTABLE: The Ronald McDonald House in Chicago was vandalized during looting early Monday morning while families & their sick children huddled inside. The liberal mayor must control her streets, tweeted White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany.
The president this week addressed the continued violence in Chicago and other major U.S. cities. He again called on local leaders to step up enforcement.
The mayors and governors of these states and cities have an absolute duty to use all resources necessary to end the violence and all of the injury and death, said Trump.
Keep voting Democrat.
the Demarxist party has finally pushed capitalism out. It should be renamed the Malignant Mile
“You’ve been Grooted!”
I think it's going to be much, MUCH worse than that.
Yep I remember how they sold the next 75 years of parking meter revenue, and got a windfall lump sum. It sounds as if they chose poorly when it came time to spend the one time windfall.
Maybe they can mortgage city hall or other city owned property? Though if they do, and make more poor choices on the use of more money, what difference will.it make?
Shes planning on selling Midway Airport.
Seriously.
L
The big liberal cities are going to get hit hard. With telecommuting becoming a perfected reality, there is no reason to be in the downtowns anymore and all the hassles and dangers of heading there.
Riot, loot, and burn, have the police stand by and then defund the police.
Uh, how could you not lose business?
lol. I never knew that, and don't understand how it can even be legal or possible - but I wake up every day now in a world of WTF.
The Blue’s Brothers can drive thru another mall before its torn down.
That area never recovered. It now has less than a quarter of the population it had back then. A wasteland.
No, they will turn on the enabling, supportive POS libtard moron, just like Bolshevik mobs ALWAYS turn on effectual, weak, and frightened incompetents. Just like they did in Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, etc. It's a vile, evil, mindless mob of hate-riddled, self-loathing morons that attack anything in its path. And they will continue to do so, until they are destroyed.
The irony is that the city most affected by the riots of the 60’s was Detroit.
Detroit was decimated and in many ways they are still recovering today. At the beginning of this chaos the city of Detroit said “NO” and while they have had some riots the police have acted to stop it and it has not grown out of control.
Back in the late 60’s, Detroit was one of the greatest cities in America and it has never fully recovered from the great exodus that took place. It will be interesting to see if there are parallels to other cities or if these riots in Chicago will be the “Detroit moment” that Minneapolis has probably suffered.
Whenever I was there there were “community organizer” groups doing something.
And all the blue voters will blame Trump.
Only sane people see the root cause of such and the others never will, they’ll just move and infect other places. Wash rinse and repeat.
Not sure what his problem is. This is his ideology in practice.
I only we could keep the capital and get rid of the capitalists; if only....
The liberal mayor must control her streets,
Translation: Leash your mad dogs or we will shoot them.
If they bite us we will shoot them anyway.
With NYC it was initially the amazing port. Then it was growth and European immigration in the early part of last century. The last 100 years it's been largely banking, business, media, sports/entertainment.
The world doesn't need NYC for any of those things anymore, and the people, mostly shitholians, are making it worse by the day.
NYC's problems run deep, and the shitholians aren't going to elect a Giuliani to save them this time.
That means DONE.
