The irony is that the city most affected by the riots of the 60’s was Detroit.
Detroit was decimated and in many ways they are still recovering today. At the beginning of this chaos the city of Detroit said “NO” and while they have had some riots the police have acted to stop it and it has not grown out of control.
Back in the late 60’s, Detroit was one of the greatest cities in America and it has never fully recovered from the great exodus that took place. It will be interesting to see if there are parallels to other cities or if these riots in Chicago will be the “Detroit moment” that Minneapolis has probably suffered.
Not sure Chicago and Detroit are comparable as far as the decline. A big reason that Detroit is a s***hole is because the surrounding suburbs passed laws that did not allow annexation by the city. No annexing equals no tax dollars. Add that to the death of the auto industry and the riots. Never, of course, leave out the looting of tax dollars by people running the schools and you have the chaos that is Detroit today.
I wish Los Angeles had learned that lesson.

Yeah, I think it went from a population of 1.5 million down to something like 500,000.
