Time after time, when progressives urged her to embrace criminal justice reforms as a district attorney and then the state’s attorney general, Ms. Harris opposed them or stayed silent. Most troubling, Ms. Harris fought tooth and nail to uphold wrongful convictions that had been secured through official misconduct that included evidence tampering, false testimony and the suppression of crucial information by prosecutors.
Consider her record as San Francisco’s district attorney from 2004 to 2011. Ms. Harris was criticized in 2010 for withholding information about a police laboratory technician who had been accused of “intentionally sabotaging” her work and stealing drugs from the lab. After a memo surfaced showing that Ms. Harris’s deputies knew about the technician’s wrongdoing and recent conviction, but failed to alert defense lawyers, a judge condemned Ms. Harris’s indifference to the systemic violation of the defendants’ constitutional rights.
Ms. Harris contested the ruling by arguing that the judge, whose husband was a defense attorney and had spoken publicly about the importance of disclosing evidence, had a conflict of interest. Ms. Harris lost. More than 600 cases handled by the corrupt technician were dismissed.

Biden may not end up being the Presidential candidate in the end. How many serious gaffs is a person allowed before one is yanked off the stage.
Overall, I think she’s a net negative for Biden due to her phony personality and sleazy history. BUT I do question the wisdom of attacking her (and Biden) from the left as having been too tough on crime. In her case, it’s total bulls—t. I’m in San Francisco, and sure maybe she’s a tough prosecutor compared to the current D.A., Weather Underground’s Chesa Boudin, but she wasn’t a tough prosecutor. She’s always been a leftist. During this time of turmoil, I don’t think it helps paint Biden-Harris as having been overzealous on incarceration, etc., In my opinion, portraying that way HELPS them with moderate/swing voters, reassuring folks who might dislike Trump but are worried about the lawlessness, police defunding, etc.
I don’t see how this pick gives him any additional votes.
Overall I agree with your point. However, she was a corrupt prosecutor, that is what matters. Putting innocent people in prison is not “tough” on crime, it is itself a crime.
Additionally, I remember a huge issue with rape kits not being processed during her tenure.

On firearms, she said that she has one for self-defense. Same with drugs. She bragged about smoking pot once a long time ago, but she puts potheads in dungeons for as long as she can.
I agree with that. Go after her for prosecutorial misconduct, absolutely. That’s fair game. But, again, I question the wisdom of knocking her as having NOT been a “progressive prosecutor.” I truly believe that some moderate/swing voters who hear that are going to say, “What’s the problem? I don’t want progressive prosecutor, so great!”
It’s the NYT so it comes from a liberal view point.
But whatever way you look at it this woman is evil. She has fought wrongful convictions. She has tried to stop DNA evidence being used to free innocent people.
The list is long and I’m sure it’s going to come under renewed scrutiny.

Yep.... the perception has appeared to be she’ll do anything to climb to the top.
As for her identifying being black and a woman....well black men don’t want to vote for a black woman who married a white man or was the mistress of a powerful black man in order to climb the political ladder. So I don’t think Biden can count on the black vote by choosing Harris.
