ESPCNN ^ | 8/9/20 | Heather Dinnich

Commissioners of the Power 5 conferences held an emergency meeting on Sunday, as there is growing concern among college athletics officials that the upcoming football season and other fall sports can't be played because of the coronavirus pandemic, sources told ESPN.

No major decisions were made on Sunday night, but multiple sources in several Power 5 conferences have told ESPN the commissioners talked about trying to collaborate if their respective presidents do decide to cancel or postpone fall sports.

What i used to call "soccer" I now call "football." There is no other kind of football. The name change makes sense anyway. "FOOTball!"

And now there no confusion when I talk to anyone outside of the USA about the sport. Otherwise, it all devolves into conversation about Marxists and Anarchy.

I would love to know the number of cable cutters just since April of this year.

Don't quote me on the exact numbers. There was an article posted on this back in July. If I recall correctly, 960,000 cut the cord from Comcrap in the 2nd quarter. The number for AT&T was even higher - over a million. They were chalking this up as people not able to pay their bills due to unemployment. I call bull schiff on that. People are sick of giving money to leftists.

They should play it in the spring, get through this BS and start play after NFL season, start mid Jan and play through March before baseball, playoffs during spring break.

If the Packers fans can sit in sub-zero weather, everyone can.

I think they cancel. Their legal departments probably told them about the trial lawyers trying to find a deep pocket to sue for any COVID-related excuse.

Safer to roll up the sidewalks and let the trial lawyer zombies pass by on the way anywhere else.

re weather it would be tough in the Big 12 but Big 10, PAC 12 SEC and ACC would not be too bad.

Think of the lawsuits if a guy who’s projected as a first round draft pick gets COVID, has blood clots in his lungs and heart that effectively end his athletic career, just because some jock-sniffing retards want to watch football on Saturdays. That’s a big damn lawsuit, multiplied hundreds of times.

Are Walter Williams, Thomas Sowell, Candace Owens, Shelby Steele, etc part of black culture? Or are they “white” as white leftist say?

You paint with a broad brush.

I personally do not see why college football is important at all. Yeah, sitting around on a Saturday afternoon and downing a six-pack and a bag of Doritos while watching a bunch of young man beat up on each other may sound like fun to some. Not anymore to me.

So many better things one can do on a Saturday.

I’m with you. The older I get the less inclined I am to waste beautiful Fall afternoons sitting inside watching football.

Just to let you know, the British invented the word soccer. It was short for Association Football, to distinguish the game from Rugby Football, Gaelic Football, Australian Rules Football, etc. Around he same time Marx began doing his thing.

I would say not. That's why I wrote "black culture" instead of just saying "blacks". The latter would be painting with a broad brush.

These are the things that are antithetical to black culture, coming straight from the horse's mouth:

I agree with everyone of these items. I suspect your above named Negroes agree as well.

Do not confuse correct analysis with racism. I am racist because leftists have deemed me racist solely because I am white. I'll go along with that, but I'm not going to apologize, have guilt or change the way I write, speak and use the American language. I'll embrace being white, Christian and being of very northern European ancestry. I lead by example. Anything antithetical to my culture IS below me. I know this because white culture works, creates and builds. Black culture destroys and takes. I suppose that makes me a white supremacist - something I'll be more than proud to be.

They can kiss non revenue (i.e., Title 9) sports goodbye, which football funded.

As my screen name indicates, I live in Nebraska. Husker football is a huge part of our culture here. My group of friends get together and watch the Husker game almost every weekend. We have been carrying on this tradition since the early 80’s. It is what we do. No Husker football is going to be like a year without Christmas.

These dirty bastards are f****ng with our way of life. This is a bridge too far in my world. I am freaking out right now as are my friends. I guess the only positive is that I will be playing a lot of fall golf.

Multiple issues
Some players don’t want to play under the current restrictions. Weird schedule and breathing issues with the new shields
Administration doesn’t want to become the boogeyman when the Covid cases spike. The “normies” have become the enemy. The new heroes are the concentration camp guards.
Schools may shut down a few weeks after starting and send all the students home.
If a few conferences play, they would get all the money which would anger the guards. That means those schools would need to be destroyed by the media which affects the administration.

I happen to be white, male and consider myself born-again. To label things as black or white in terms of culture falls into a leftist trap in my opinion. Lots of white boys wanna be gangstas...Lots of black children are learning how respect authority, love our country etc. In my opinion, they are two cultures, one that traditional in its Judeo-Christian heritage and the other that is essentially leftist / hedonistic.

Although it’s a convenient excuse to get drunk and make a fool of yourself.

Wait, you guys need an excuse?

FWIW, for most colleges, athletics are actually a financial drain.

Here's an article, yeah from NBC, but is one of the few that has actual hard numbers from using FOIA to get information from public colleges.

Hidden figures: College students may be paying thousands in athletic fees and not know it

It notes that James Madison in Virginia has a required student athletic fee of $2340, annually. Later in the article, it points out that seven of the top ten schools in terms of student athletic fees are in Virginia, BUT that Virginia is one of the few states that requires transparency on this.

Other notes: coaching salaries are over twice the amount allocated for athletic scholarships.

One last note, but not from the article. For the last year I could find, the University of Miami in Florida turned a 6 million profit from their football team (doesn't list all athletics, and almost everything except football and men's basketball loses money. Their medical school received $150 million in research grants.

TL;DR: Most sports programs are a financial drain on the universities. At legitimate research institutes, athletic dollars are small compared to the research grants available.
