Has your State stopped paying unemployment insurance? Remember when it wasn’t a Federal responsibility?
I’ve been unemployed twice in my life, and I’ve had to fire a number of people too. The latter is just as hard, if not harder.
Giving people money, that they might end up having to give back is not compassionate. Of course, FEMA does it all the time.

Unfortunately the state does not pay enough for one to survive very long. In past times we would rely on family, friends, and church to help us by. They're all hurting too. I understand your point of view but the hole we dig with the bailouts may be easier to crawl back out of than the alternative.

Fortunately, I've never been without a job.

So like I said. Let them eat cake!
