Russia warns it will see any incoming missile as nuclear

Russia will perceive any ballistic missile launched at its territory as a nuclear attack that warrants a nuclear retaliation, the military warned in an article published Friday.

The harsh warning in the official military newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda (Red Star) is directed at the United States, which has worked to develop long-range non-nuclear weapons.

The article follows the publication in June of Russia’s nuclear deterrent policy that envisages the use of atomic weapons in response to what could be a conventional strike targeting the nation’s critical government and military infrastructure.

In the Krasnaya Zvezda article, senior officers of the Russian military's General Staff, Maj.-Gen. Andrei Sterlin and Col. Alexander Khryapin, noted that there will be no way to determine if an incoming ballistic missile is fitted with a nuclear or a conventional warhead, and so the military will see it as a nuclear attack.

Another good reason not to go to war with Russia. I wish our elites - Dems and Republicans alike - didn’t seem so eager to pick a fight with Putin.

Curious if anyone is aware what degree of maintenance Russia’s stockpile of nukes gets.

I don’t think there are any Russians
And there ain’t no Yanks

Just corporate criminals
Playing with tanks

Can’t say I blame them. How are they to know what payload is aboard an ICBM heading their way?

This is the kind of message that would be sent by someone extremely insecure about their defensive capabilities.

Is Russia telegraphing a strong sense of self-doubt?

Why would a message of such unequal deterrence and massive on-step escallation be necessary?

Vlad the I’mwailer...

This stuff just gets comical after a while.

He’s the one posturing and acting as if he wants nuclear
war.

Grow up Vlad. Your 1960s stand-up act is growing tedious.

Hey Ivan:

If we are going to launch anything at you it will not be one missile, but thousands, simultaneously. You won’t see it because we will detonate all of your satellites during launch phase. Of course the time between those events will not be long enough to save you.

Just be glad we - unlike you - are peaceful.

No go back to your borscht and vodka while pretending to be relevant.

Good to hear. Democrats thing that Russia is a Third World country and can be treated as if they have a Third World military, and, to please their base, they’d probably try attacking them, to teach them a lesson regarding Syria or whatever other crap they object to. Hopefully, with this warning, they’ll understand that US cities are history if they try this crap (which, given Antifa and the locals being elected....never mind, better stop now).

Why would we shoot an ICBM at Russia?

> I wish our elites - Dems and Republicans alike - didn’t seem so eager to pick a fight with Putin. <

Part of the problem is this: Many of our elites refuse to consider the point of view of other countries. Yes, Putin is a bad guy. And we are under no obligation to bow to any of his demands. But if you don’t consider his point of view you’re not doing your job as a US official.

Here’s one historical example of that. Before WW II the West appeased Hitler. The Soviet Union was never consulted or invited to any of the conferences. No one stopped to consider how Stalin would take that. And that is one reason (of many) why Stalin signed a pact with Hitler. He was afraid the next France-UK-Germany conference might target him.
