New York AG seeks to dissolve NRA in lawsuit accusing leaders of self-dealing, causing $64 million in losses

New York Attorney General Letitia James was set to announce Thursday that the state is seeking to dissolve the National Rifle Association in a lawsuit that accuses the leadership of the flagging nonprofit of diverting millions of dollars for their own personal use.

According to the lawsuit, the senior leadership of the NRA squandered millions in donations on personal trips, private jets and expensive meals. The failure to lawfully manage the organization’s funds contributed to losses of $64 million over three years, the suit says.

James is asking the court to dissolve the NRA and require each of the current and former executives named in the suit to pay full restitution. The suit argues that the four executives, including CEO Wayne LaPierre, shouldn’t be permitted to ever again serve on the board of a New York charity.

The suit continues a long-running battle between the state and the gun-rights group, which has been chartered in New York since 1871. James, who is a Democrat, threatened to investigate the NRA’s nonprofit status during her campaign for attorney general and likened the group in 2018 to a “terrorist organization.”

LOL, and here Cuomo is begging people to return to New York:

"Cuomo begs wealthy New Yorkers to come back to save the city and pleads 'I'll buy you a drink!' as he fights off calls to raise their taxes - which he fears may scare them away forever"

Taxes are only part of it, many said they fled due to violence and lack of policing.

How about dissolving the N.Y. AG. The NRA does seem to have a problem with corruption but dissolving it is not the answer. This is just another way for the proggs to reduce their effectiveness. They would love them to go away.

She’s wasting time and taxpayer funds as usual for a Dem.

They will just move to another more gun friendly state and reorganize....

She’s probably campaigning for Biden’s VP slot................

Sounds like your typical New York bureaucrat.

I still support NRA, but I have long felt it is top heavy and we are putting ALL our eggs in one basket.

NRA is SUCH a target of the left and if it goes down, the 2nd amendment is unprotected. On the other had there are no end of liberal organizations protecting abortion, gun grabbing, gays, etc.

When Ollie North got in there it was rocked. Not sure if Ollie was right or just a loose cannon, but it revealed large cracks.

Years ago when I was training to become a Shooting Instructor, I explained why I refused to contribute financially to a Politically affiliated organization like the NRA.
It was explained that the chief purpose of the NRA is to teach shooting skills, starting with safety and responsibility. They instruct 750,000+ individuals every year and my $25.00 per year goes more towards that than to buying off politicians. Essentially by being a NRA Instructor, I actually am the NRA.. Therefore, I join 3 years at a time for $75.00.
The NRA, like all institutions run by men are going through a bit of a reset BUT they are the preeminent defender of our rights.
I also contribute to the Gun Owners of America.

“I’ve had enough of these angry, black female prosecutors abusing their positions.”

Unfortunately, this is exactly why most black people, especially women, are not ready to lead, they can not think beyond the color of their own skin and are consumed by rage.

It's so good to know the Attorney General of NEW YORK is so concerned about the well being of gun right advocates and the effectiveness of their funds she's decided to sue the NRA out of business for the good of the movement.

Well IF they did then such an action by NY is warranted, provided proper procedure is followed.

Just another power-happy RAT attacking the pro-second amendment group. The NRA should move to another state that would welcome their business as many others have fled the radical policies of New York.....

That’s all they got? A lawsuit against the NRA which already addressed these problems? And that requires a news conference? Gee, I thought it was something scandalous.

Like that is not true of any organization?

I wonder how many millions the NY AG office squanders every year. She sure looks like she doesn't scrimp on her taxpayer-paid business meals.
