Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is promoting the reopening of schools across the country, noting the serious risks associated with keeping kids out of classrooms.
During a webinar for the Buck Institute, Redfield pointed out the low risk of children spreading COVID-19 and said the spike in suicides and drug overdoses is far greater than the number of coronavirus-related deaths among the countrys younger population.
Its not risk of school openings versus public health, he said. Its public health versus public health.
Redfield added, Im of the point of view, and I weigh that equation as an individual that has 11 grandchildren, that the greater risk is actually to the nation to keep these schools closed.
Earlier in July, he told ABCs Good Morning America he would absolutely be comfortable with his grandkids going back to school in-person this fall. Redfield did, though, concede he may have some reservation about his grandson with cystic fibrosis returning to the classroom, depending on how he could be accommodated.

Fauci: OrangeManBad. #OrangeManBad
Well I could see some person with chronic depression be feeling stressed at some of the crazy ride were on.
so....Redfield and Fauci, muzzle-loaded pistols at ten paces?
The difference being you can opt to shoot yourself or not. OR do drugs or not. Suicidal people are always looking for an excuse. People do drugs cause they want to.
Covid does not allow you that choice. We are losing some of the best minds and best people-read doctors and nurses etc— because of the Covid problem.
Renfield was referring to the danger to children.
The greatest danger to the teachers, parents and grandparents of these children is coronavirus and not suicides, drug overdoses, et al.
This morning I was at Panara Bread and was asked at the cas register if I had a mask. I said NO. I was offered a mask and was asked to put it on. I said NO. I was then told I had to step outside and use the Panara App to submit my order. I said that if I stepped outside I was going next door to Village Inn which I did. I noticed that once you ordered your coffee it was OK to remove the mask to drink it. I am 70 and will NOT submit to the lunacy.
School age kids make up less than 2% of all COVID infections.
School age kids are less likely to spread COVID to parents, grandparents and teachers than they are to spread influenza.

+ + + +
Exactly.
Anyone saying otherwise....and, especially that ‘the greatest danger to the teachers, parents and grandparents of these children is coronavirus and not suicides, drug overdoses, et al’....is pushing manure.
Charley....do you have a link to your quoted claim?
