Were Christians Always So Left-Wing?
American Thinker.com ^ | July 26., 2020 | Eileen F. Toplansky

Those observing the cultural landscape in America attempt to understand why Jews vote for leftwing policies that run counter to their own safety and existence. But many Catholic institutions are also active in disseminating radical left-wing ideology. It was not always thus.

At this site, one can see the American Catholic pamphlet series on Communism that highlighted the dangers of this murderous ideology. The following were published in 1947:

Regarding Eugene Lyons, Harry Stein has written:

[I]n The Red Decade, Lyons was, in fact, describing the Communist-dominated American Left of the Depression-wracked 1930s and 1940s. Lyons' observations [are] even more meaningful, for it is sobering to be confronted with how little has been gained by hard experience. The celebration of feelings over reason? The certainty of moral virtue? The disdain for tradition and the revising of history for ideological ends? The embrace of the latest definition of correct thought? Lyons was one of the most gifted reporters of his time, and among the bravest, and his story of the spell cast by Stalinist-tinged social-justice activism over that day's purported best and brightest — literary titans, Hollywood celebrities, leading academics, religious leaders, media heavies — would be jaw-dropping if it weren't so eerily familiar.

For me, the question is not why Christians are Left Wing, but if you are Left Wing, how can you truthfully call yourself a “Christian”?

Cultural Marxist minions of The Frankfurt School began infiltrating seminaries long ago. They didn’t just infiltrate secular schools.

Eugene Lyons knew the threat, and clearly defined it and exposed it. Alas, most of America has either forgotten the warning or has — worse! — happily embraced the threat.

We are about to enter a new Dark Age.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Just calling yourself or your institution ‘Christian’ doesn’t make you one.

The author seems to have no idea what a Christian is.

No, the Christian left-wing stance is new (in some ways it is as old as St. Paul’s letters.), but “social justice” is not new.

Christians cannot agree on what constitutes social justice, though, even in the same denomination. I was disgusted to find out that mine,an evangelical one, was helping illegals get to the U.S.

Protestant churches have been taken over by leftists. The Pope is a pure communist.

The rank and file Christians are not leftists and many in fact have divorced from the leftist church organizations

It seems to me the Catholic Church wasn’t so left wing until the first Chrislam Pope Francis assumed the throne.

“For this reason, Marxism, whether in classical or cultural form, can be viewed as a corruption or parody of the gospel—replete with its own false prophet (Marx), false Bible (Das Kapital), false doctrine (dialectical materialism), false apostles (Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Marcuse), and false hope (a communist utopia). Therefore, the fact that Cultural Marxism is a real ideology making a real impact on our world is not good news.”

I think factions of the Catholic church have always leaned left wing. Like the Jesuits.

Government welfare has been transformed from a 1930s safety net to a 2020 way of life.

The answer is, you simply cannot. It is not possible to be ‘liberal’ and to be a Christ follower. The Lordship of Jesus in one’s life causes a surrender of ‘earthly truth’ in exchange for Heavenly revealed eternal Truth....”God’s Truth”....”Jesus”

If you are a believer....the Spirit of God “Holy Spirit” God Himself....is always at work in your mind. heart and spirit revealing God and teaching you his ways and his truth.

However without the Holy Spirit you are simply the blind leading the blind and or following the blind.

It is not spiritually possible for a liberal who has accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior and through the act of their free will put forth to follow him in this life… To remain liberal.

There is an old saying that “there’s a whole lot of people talking about Heaven that probably won’t be going there.”

Some Christians and their denominations aren’t very Christian.

With God there is no left or right wing, He is the Center. Your and my viewpoints are pitifully limited relatively. Politicians attempt to warp the people into rendering unto Caesar that which is God’s.

Big Mistake

Lots of people are warming pews & calling themselves ‘Christian’ in ‘Christian’ churches (some of which are still faithful to God’s Word, many of which have embraced the non-Biblical changes in society and are not).

I agree with your post - personally, I believe you cannot espouse liberal views and be Christian; however, God will judge ... I think there are many who will be sadly surprised at the outcome.

Marxism has been described by some as a Christian heresy so I suppose one can see how some deluded Christians would embrace it given all the other delusions out there. Jesus warned of the many deceptions we would face.
