Those regular N95 masks don't fit me. I have to buy one with the silicone mask, in medium size, that has replaceable filters. When I used to paint, the company would buy Large spray masks so I'd end up buying my own in Medium. You can't have a beard and paint cars in an auto body shop that has any sort of safety program. First thing they'll tell you is you need to shave the beard off or at least shave it down so that it all fits inside the mask to skin contact area. Lots of guys with beards here in MO, including retail workers. A strip of cloth or surgical style mask looks ridiculous over a full beard. But hey, there are TV shows with bearded surgeons so it's all good.
It was the same for me when working with potential hazards in their air. Not only that, but no touching your mask, along with proper removal and handwashing because your mask could have some poisonous chemical contaminants on it. As someone who had his entire face, even his eyes, covered for handling real airborne chemical hazards, how people handle masks makes me cringe.
