Health Professionals Advocate For School Reopening Despite Coronavirus Pandemic
The Daily Caller ^ | July 15, 2020 | Neil Shah

Health professionals nationwide released statements in a Tea Party Patriots Action Second Opinion Project email on Thursday that they believe schools should reopen and that it is the safest option for kids.

The consensus among the physicians, that kids would benefit academically, socially, and health-wise from schools reopening this fall, echoes a statement from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released on July 10 addressing the issue of schools reopening in the fall.

“We recognize that children learn best when physically present in the classroom. But children get much more than academics at school. They also learn social and emotional skills at school, get healthy meals and exercise, mental health support and other services that cannot be easily replicated online.”

The Tea Party Patriots Action groups is a national advocacy group whose aim is to encourage civic engagement, and its The Second Opinion Project is designed to accrue opinions from health professionals about the coronavirus pandemic in America.

20 Jul: CNN Transcripts: NEW DAY
(scroll down)
JOHN BERMAN, CNN ANCHOR: Dr. Wilson, I’m a parent of two 13-year-old boys. Alisyn has school-aged kids, as well. There was a study out of South Korea. This is a backwards-looking study at the infections in South Korea among younger people. And what it found, looking at thousands of cases, was that the infection rate among kids, middle-school age and older, you know, 10 to 16 or so, was about equal to that of adults.
In other words, students passed the virus just as much as adults do, and children younger than 10, a much lower rate. But not zero. About half or 40 percent of the rate.
I was surprised to see this, based on some of the things we’ve been hearing in the United States over the last few weeks. What are the implications of this as we plan on opening schools?...

DR. JASON WILSON, ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF EMERGENCY MEDICINE, TAMPA GENERAL HOSPITAL: And that’s the big conversation right now in Hillsborough County. You know, we were supposed to go back to school on August 10. That’s been delayed now until at least August 24...
So far, what we’ve seen here, in this area, and it may be different in South Korea, we don’t know, but what we’ve seen here is we have not seen a lot of spread from kids to adults. We’re not seeing that too much yet.
We certainly see high rates right now. I think we saw some record- breaking rates over these past seven dates for our children, for their positivity rates, but again, very few of those have to be hospitalized, thank goodness...

BERMAN: And the South Korea study does raise new questions...

Texas opened up a bit and promptly had their cases double (at least). Hard to see anything good resulting from re-opening our schools on top of that.

Although I am not sure how much sway that organization will have compared to the teachers union. They want pay without work.

Yeah, because kids are locked in cages when they are at home all day by parents who are knuckle dragging Neanderthals who don't know anything more about parenting than how to produce the offspring.

There's so much wrong with this statement, it's hard to know where to begin.

The “hybrid” idea would be good at this time, to open up fall. Teacher stands in front of the classroom, 6 feet away from the desks, with a face shield.

Kids are 4 feet away from each other.

And they meet twice a week, to avoid hiring twice the teachers in twice the classrooms—splitting the difference. The other days are remote.

It’s important for the United States to get our kids in school, to get “boots on the ground.”

I read that 1/3 of children in LA never logged in once during Spring “distance learning.”

The world is no longer as you describe. There ARE a lot of knuckle dragging parents, and kids are now either playing video games all day long or roaming the streets.

This is not good. This is what “BLM” should be focusing on. How are new United States STEM jobs going to be filled by Americans when now there is literally no one to teach them Calculus? The rest of the entire world has resumed educating children. The US has not.

This—what is going on right now and likely to continue through 2020-21 and beyond maybe— is the biggest educational policy blunder in United States history.

How many high school kids take calculus?

And you can force a kid to attend school but if they are unwilling to learn, it wouldn’t matter if you glued them to the seat 24/7, they are not going to learn.

Parents can and do very successfully homeschool, and even to teaching calculus.

Been there, done that.

The biggest educational blunder a parent can make is sending their kids to public indoctrination centers to turn them into obedient little public school drones.

Yeah, that government funded day care and bloated socialist teacher, administrator and contractor pay is important for keeping the recirculating debt and foreign manufacturing economy going. It’s a perpetual motion machine for training each generation of kids to be good commies, and the debts can run as high as we want them to forever and ever with no consequences. “Socialize” has a second meaning in this context, doesn’t it.

It’s past time to redesign, reorganize and privatize education, especially with the current technologies for educating individuals at home and in local private shops, labs, etc. And it’s time to put the men back to work manufacturing more products on U.S. soil and end the nationwide slavery of the so-called service industry. The U.S.A. is not the proper place for a nationwide tourist trap for global oligarchs, either.

Times have changed. When I went to school, all we heard from the teachers is *You’re not here to socialize. You’re hear to learn. Socialize after school.*

Homeschool support groups provide plenty of opportunity for social interaction.

It takes effort on the part of parents but there are certainly enough opportunities that if one is not careful, the academics can fall by the wayside.
