The death of those extra $600 weekly unemployment payments now seems imminent.
Republicans are intent on ending the enhancement to jobless benefits, created by the CARES Act in late March to prop up household income for the millions who've lost their jobs to the coronavirus pandemic.

well yeah when the average income for those on unemployment is 130% of what they were making and in some cases 200% I’d say it’s too high.
It’s a safety net not a pot of gold

A friends son is collecting all that and protesting in Portland. My friend is chagrined. Perhaps hell try harder to find a job without the added $2400/month

Ok, so how much legislative brains does it take for Republicans to simply resize it so that people can pay the danged RENT and buy FOOD till this sudden stupid over-reactionary shut-down is called off?
Start suing the CHINESE who triggered the whole thing instead of getting cold feet about relieving the grief!!!

Ha. Ha ha. Ha ha ha ha........my deadbeat daughter-in-law and her husband were shacking up with us after they moved away and came back. I finally ran them off for a dozen valid reasons (not the least of which, they were deadbeats), and she got her old job back herding kittens at the daycare center. When this whole coronavirus fiasco hit and the Imperial Federal Government started handing out party favors, her income topped off at $800 a week and she said she didn't want to go back to her old job - she could sit at home and collect free money. I told her mother to let her know that the biscuit wheels fell off their gravy train long before that, and she'll be living in a tent in the local park before I subsidize her and her slopeheaded, lazy, disrespectful, ungrateful, slovenly brood anymore, so she'd better be at work at Zero Dark Thirty unlocking the doors the day she gets the call to come in. I have had enough of this shit.

Agreed, now is not the time to be cheap, unless they want to hand the election to Biden.

Trump’s re-election is more important than saving cash.

Republicans need to do everything they can to make sure that people are in good financial shape or they will be handing the government to Biden in November.

“Really dumb time to be cheap by GOP”.
Taking away an incentive not to get back to work is not being cheap. That’s over $2400.00 per month to stay home.

You presume that the work is there in the same measure it would be without the shutdowns.
The enhancement to jobless benefits is insane, many are making more on unemployment then they made working. It’s an incentive to not work, that is insane. Unemployment is generally 2/3rds normal income, that is enough. The federal government cannot just absorb any pain you might feel because your local or state elected leaders decided to use you as a party favor.

Where is my $600 a week for being required to go into work everyday?
The extra money should not have been given.
To: Arcadian Empire
I misunderstood something because I had heard that there were many people turning down employers to come back to work but turned them down because they were making more through the stimulis money being paid weekly.
For those who have no work to go back to, hell yes they need the help.

It shouldn’t go to zero. I’m thinking 2 or 300
If you were making 800 a week before then your state unemployment is probably three or four hundred plus another two or three hundred should be enough.

If you pay people not to work of course they dont work.
I know it is not the fault of many that they got laid off. Therefore they have a moral argument.
But whatever you subsidize gets bigger. Its like an economic law.
