Dr. Carl Sagan was one of the premier scientists when it came to trying to bridge the gap of hard science with general public understanding. In the process, his personal enthusiasm for the wonder of science became evident to all. He also understood that science could be hijacked and that the highest standards of evidence were required when fantastic claims were being made.
In just a few short months, the world has gone from a normal functioning society to one of extreme panic and chaos (maybe The Twilight Zone could not have conceived of this to such a degree). We have seen the very foundations of human existence cracked, some might say disintegrated. There has been induced panic and hysteria, cultural and social disintegration, censorship, political hijacking, economic collapse and hardship, imposition of laws in free societies incurred beyond the usual process of lawmaking and resembling totalitarian regimes. In short, human existence has been turned upside down. Fortunately, there have been some zones of sanity around the world, but far too few....

There was a good Twilight Zone episode where the power to a residential area was shut off. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, the power in one house came on. This made the crowds suspicious. Then the power went off there, and went on at another house. The crowds turned to that family. As this continued the townsfolk turned violent against and suspicious of each other.
At the end the camera pans out to some aliens on a spacecraft overlooking the town and they say to each other “see, we don’t have to attack them. We can make them destroy themselves”.
Carl Sagan was a great TV scientist, but issued many dubious pronouncements:

Yes.. But the revers is true too...I read a great article by Jeffrey Tucker in this same journal where he discussed the “madness of crowds,” that is, panics such as this, the Salem witch-hunts, attacks on Jews and others during plagues in Europe, etc.
He cites a book entitled ”Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds,” published in 1841 by the Scottish author Charles Mackey, who writes that “people go mad as a crowd, but get sane one by one.” So let’s hope one by one people are taking the red pill.
The “Evidence” is mostly made up.Someone in or near the MSM or Marxist Party makes up a lie and the Media all swear to it. The rubes buy into it like a medicine mans sales pitch.
There is no evidence. The message is: Vote Trump out of office or we WILL collapse the entire economy. Your choice.

Sagan was a great TV “Science Presenter\Expositor”. He had pretty much left being a scientist years before COSMOS.
Which I loved. He evolved into one of the best examples of “Expertise in one Field does imply expertise in another !”
Fairly early on I labelled it a ‘Panic Pandemic’
Had I been the spokesman instead of ‘Fake-Views’ Falsi either
1) We would all be dead or
2) America would be humming along at Pre-Feb 2020 levels

the word ‘COVID’ would make as much sense as ‘COVFEFFE’
LOL! Agreed. I was okay with the two week thing, although I thought it was based mostly on hysterical and overinflated reports from various international organizations. I really got suspicious when Fauci praised the “Chinese response” (you know, police state stuff, welding people into their apartments, etc.).
And I think many people were more scared by this prospect than by the virus. The virus was nothing but the police state is a full-blown reality.

Now we are at four months and the prog are starting to throw around the word “indefinitely.”

They send emails about how they are proud of their infection control and sacrifices by their staff. Rightfully so. They had better infection control than most other facilities before COVID. But the whole experience begs the question: once you know about the virus you can stop it even in a very easy-spread setting. I presume it was mainly the asymptomatic women in their 80's increasing the load day after day. Plus asymptomatic staff.
Looking at the super-spreading events like Biogen it is quite possible that it was not simply a super-spreader, but a deliberate spreader. That event led to nearly all known cases in Mass in March. But what if that event was, in part, to provide cover for the unknown cases?
Unlike the flu there aren't two billion people with it around the world. Many parts of the world have no barriers or mitigation. It means the virus is a sporadic spreader, not a good spreader like flu. It could also mean the virus got help. I still think the Chinese woman who left Biogen and went back to China "to get tested" is interesting. She was already tested here and tested positive.
I'm not a conspiracy person, I only believe in reality. I believe I had the flu+cold until I hear convincing evidence to the contrary.

Recently I saw several top scientists say that in effect there are. They observed that all SARS-family viruses can be killed--with greater or lesser efficiency--by antibodies to other SARS viruses, and that this includes the WuFlu. And that even antibodies to strains of the common cold provide some immunity.
And I haven't seen any scientist lately accepting that you can pass on the virus if you have no symptoms. Even the CDC admitted that a few weeks ago.
This subject is a moving target, but I think a few things are becoming clear: This is a flu virus like the swine, bird, etc. The surviving strains become weaker over time because the virulent ones kill their sufferers before they get the chance to spread it to very many people. Those deadliest strains die with their victims while the milder strains reproduce abundantly. Their victims don't get too sick to party!
Chinese want a nanite driven virus that kiils off everyone in America, China then replaces population with their citizens.

there is both; I know people who wear masks when they are not within fifty yards of anybody...they are under no tyrannical mandate to do so...
