The Our World in Data project (website: ourworldindata.org), from the Oxford Martin School of the University of Oxford, contains a wealth of information on COVID-19 (and on many other subjects, too) that anybody, even the lying media, can view through interactive charts. I was curious to know just how far along we are in the progression of the pandemic here in the U.S., and from their tables I extracted the following information for confirmed COVID-19 cases as a percentage of people tested (weekly intervals, three-day rolling average):
March 16, 2020: 6.5%; March 23, 11.2%; March 31, 15.0%.
April 6, 17.2%; April 13, 18.6%; April 20, 18.7%; April 27, 17.1%.
May 5, 15.5%; May 12, 13.9%; May 19, 12.3%; May 26, 11.1%.
June 1, 10.3%; June 8, 9.4%; June 15, 8.7%; June 22, 8.3%; June 29, 8.00%
July 6, 8.00%; July 13, 8.1%.
The current testing rate is about 850,000 people daily (about 0.26 of the U.S. population per day, 1.8% weekly), and the testing rate is still increasing sharply. As of July 17, 44.2 million people have been tested, with 3.63 million positives (8.2%). Those folks who tested negative either never contracted COVID-19 or had it (with or without symptoms) and recovered.
I began my data analysis with mid-March because (1) this was the day that everything abruptly shut down (in the Northeast) because it was suddenly obvious that COVID-19 was a real problem; (2) the data were being collected from all 56 states and territories, not a subset; and (3) this was likely about the time I contracted my own case of COVID-19, meaning (in retrospect) to me that it had "escaped" from the hospitals and nursing homes to the general public.

“None of the data is clean. Period.”
On many levels. So many variables. So many lies. So much manipulation.
My Prediction: This albatross will be around our necks for the 12 months regardless of numbers dropping because the media needs to keep it going.
+1
Totally agree. And it is no accident. It was planned to do just this.
...So, assuming that testing is now essentially random among the population, ...

Sorry, your entire analysis is based upon a faulty assumption. The people being tested every day are NOT a random selection of the population. A significant chunk of those tested were referred by a doctor or were self-selected because they think they may have symptoms or were in contact with an infected person. Another chunk are people who earlier tested positive and, upon the passage of time, are being retested (possibly for the Nth time) to see if they no longer test positive.
I haven’t understood the real use of a test for the active disease. You could be negative one day, and contract it a day or two later. Are we going to test everyone, endlessly?
We need an accurate antibody test to gauge how many have actually had it, and possibly have had it with no symptoms. It seems that would give more accurate data on just how dangerous this truly is. I suspect that many have been infected without ever knowing it - and perhaps earlier than we know.
But, I’m not a scientist. I don’t fully understand the difference between antibody and antigen tests; or how long after disease they can detect that one has had it. And I suspect that they can be as erroneous as the PCR test.
Exactly . Easy to predict. November 3 the corona 19 will suddenly disappear. The next 4 months DJT will be the creator and spreader of the virus & the pandemic. Count on it.
Yes, it’s been so confusing. First they say they have antibody tests, but, oh wait, they aren’t that accurate. I really want to have one, because I strongly suspect I had this virus in February.
Here is more info on antibody tests. It’s not very encouraging.

It will never end according to the MSM!
Most of the points there seem to start with ‘you MAY’.
I’m not worried. I’m old and somewhat ‘at risk’, as they tell us.
I take precautions, but I figure eventually everyone is going to get it - whatever IT is.
No good sense in worrying.
Washington State is right on it:
Yep. How convenient...
at my hosptial, we do have lots more covid admits...most are old...most are from nursing homes....they're all playing it safe now....
dirty little secret is that hospitals have to keep a lot of elderly covid patients even once recovered because no nursing home will take them....it really kicks the hospitalization number up..
I agree. We all die of something, and I believe God determines that time. That doesn’t mean we run out and jump off buildings just to see if it’s our time, but there is no sense in worrying about things we cannot control. I also believe that eventually everyone will get this virus.
Marking your post for after the election.
You don't think the Dims will continue to blame Trump for causing Kung Flu after his reelection?
But then I guess that isn't quite the same thing.
Yes. One of my favorite spiritual writers has said that ‘when your number is up, it’s up’ - it’s on God’s time.
But that doesn’t mean that, in the nature of things, you don’t have lots of opportunities to inadvertently off yourself BEFORE your time.
Take good care of yourself, and don’t be foolish - make sure that your number is up on God’s time, instead of early because of your own failure.
Bttt
“The cruise ship, a perfect environment for the spread of a virus, only yeilded 17% infected.”
That is an excellent comparison! I decided to look at the death rate, too. According to Worldometer (http://bit.ly/3ddGbQG) the overall worldwide death rate (deaths/cases) is 4% (today). The U.S. is about 3.5%. The Diamond Princess (DP) 1.8%!
The DP is the perfect petri dish.
Someone is surely fudging the numbers somewhere!
