After the fastest recession in U.S. history, the economic recovery may be fizzling

United Airlines announced plans to lay off more than one-third of its 95,000 workers. Brooks Brothers, which first opened for business in 1818, filed for bankruptcy. And Bed Bath and Beyond said it will close 200 stores.

Welcome to the recovery.

If there were still hopes of a “V-shaped” comeback from the novel coronavirus shutdown, this past week should have put an end to them. The pandemic shock, which economists once assumed would be only a temporary business interruption, appears instead to be settling into a traditional, self-perpetuating recession.

When states and cities began closing most businesses in March, the idea was to smother the virus and buy time for the medical system to adapt. Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law and a senior White House adviser, spoke of hopes “that by July the country’s really rocking again.”

NO SEARCH RESULTS. From the bezos gazette. Odd that suddenly a lot of places are closed again. It's almost like someone came up with an idea that too rapid a recovery would help PDJT. To the folks that believe that rip van biden and his gaggle of supporters have a better answer, you are being lied to. As usual. Keep our eyes on the prize. For the future of the country.

Many businesses were on the brink of bankruptcy. Viromania merely pushed them over the edge.

Yet these people were singing the praises of Obama’s economic miracles. The newzak just continues.

Observation: stories that have “may be” in their headline lack factual basis and, instead, reflect the wishes of the author(s).

When states and cities began closing most businesses in March, the idea was to smother the virus and buy time for the medical system to adapt.

And I think 3 months is plenty of time for the medical system to "adapt". Unless, of course, the actual idea was to shut down the country and force a recession so as to make Trump look bad...

Sales are already exceeding pre-recession levels. 5 million people left unemployment rolls last month.

The author is looking at one term in a complicated many-term equation. Decoupling from China will bring hundreds of supply chain companies back to US shores. The economic activity that creates will dwarf that of older companies damaged by the virus, or, more exactly, damaged by government’s response to the virus. Those employees laid off will, assuming they aren’t “rescued” by government programs, will quickly find employment in new enterprises resulting from decoupling.

If this was the early twentieth century, the authors of this screed would be begging for government subsidies of the ice business and buggy manufacturing. While I am sorry to see the many businesses fail, that does not mean the end of air travel or overpriced bathroom amenities.

If the Democrats and the media do not stop what they've been doing deliberately destroying the economy in a bid for power, we are going to see an economic collapse and subsequent turmoil that will make the Great Depression of 1929-1932 look like a mild recession.

Furthermore, this time, an enemy will invade and conquer the nation. The age group needed to fight a war is in the streets burning, looting, murdering with no values/discipline required to fight a difficult war. This is not looking good.

It's all about, and only about one thing...

Getting Donald Trump out, now or by November 3rd.

That's it.

An ONGOING, in-your-face alliance of the media, academia, the democrats, race-baiters, Never Trumpers, Chamber of Commerce Republicans, the Left, Marxists and the People's Republic of China.

At some point after the Titanic bow came in contact with the iceberg the ship was doomed. Where exactly that point was can probably be easily calculated.

Harder to calculate is the point at which half-assed shutdown of the economy sends us all to the bottom. My guess? We’ve passed the tipping point. Doesn’t matter really. The Democrats are going to double down long enough to definitely get us there any damn way...

Correct. It was never about a virus from the beginning. It alarms me that so many fellow FReepers were too dumb to see it.

Here in California, they have reimposed lockdowns on many businesses including malls. Amusement parks, fairs, expositions and sporting events which employ hundreds of thousands and generate billions in revenue have been closed since March. And I am certain that the mask mandate depresses business by making people reluctant to go shopping. As for me, I always make a list of what I want to buy, get the items, and leave—I don’t spend time browsing, as I used to do.

After imposing all these restrictions on the economy, the politicians scratch their heads and wonder, why is unemployment so high and why the state facing such a huge deficit?

This is all by design -- the design of the Democrat/Left which, if the governors and state bureaucrats are left unchecked and allowed by the federal government to continue their direct assault on the Constitution and our liberty, will continue and expand for the next four years should Americans dare re-elect Trump.

The coronavirus and the racial protests are all tied in together as a package deal conjured up and executed by the Deep State and all its factions to achieve one goal, and that is to defeat Donald Trump in November. As all leftists do they’re “overspending” to attain their “reward” Destroying a worldwide economy and disrupting and potentially ruining billions of lives to get one man. Yup, that’s the left!

You just may be correct.

However, I am still awaiting the appropriate miracle.

I am owed one .......... and you all (conservative FReepers) will benefit from this sequence.
