Former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions lost the Republican nomination for his old Senate seat in Alabama to former college football coach Tommy Tuberville, likely ending a long political career with a bitter defeat egged on by President Donald Trump.
Tuberville, 65, beat Sessions in Tuesday’s Republican runoff as Sessions fell short in his attempted comeback for a seat he held for two decades before resigning to become Trump’s attorney general in 2017.
Familiar to Alabamians from his decade as Auburn University’s head football coach, Tuberville is now positioned for a strong challenge against Democratic U.S. Sen. Doug Jones. With Alabama’s strong GOP tilt, the seat is widely viewed as Republicans’ best chance for a pickup as they try to maintain their thin Senate majority amid Trump’s lagging popularity nationally.

I saw one report that Sessions was losing his home county. Tuberville mopped the floor with Sessions. I predict Graham will suddenly schedule a public hearing on Spygate and we might even hear from Durham soon. The GOP has been put on notice tonight.

Speaking for myself (and I presume, some others here), I can say that I’m not interested in “serious analysis” of Tuberville’s positions. I suspect many of us are absolutely FURIOUS about the attempted coup, and see Jeff Sessions as someone who, if not corrupted and involved, at least sat back, watched the whole thing happen and did nothing. We’d be happy if a lump of dirt beat him because we do not want to see him rewarded by being voted back into office. It’s really just that simple.
Your viewpoint is more rational, more interesting and probably the better one to have - but strong negative emotions are hard to overcome, and I’m just happy to see Sessions gone forever.
Because he won’t be enthusiastically supporting Trump this time?

Sessions was a lonely immigration hawk years before Trump ever dreamed of running. Session’s long time aid Stephen Miller is Trump’s point man on immigration.
Sessions was arguably the main GOP border patriot fighting Dubya’s attempt to ram through another amnesty. Back when opposing Bush’s lunatic immigration policy could get you banned here at FR. I’m sure it was even a bigger risk for an elected Republican.
Sessions was indeed a good Senator. He was my favorite Senator for years.
Then he threw it all away supporting an ongoing coup against a GOP POTUS by allowing Democrats to defacto run the “Sessions” DOJ. To this day refuses to see the error of his ways and for that he was defeated.

On Birmingham Fox channel this morning Sessions at least said he would fully support Tubbs and do whatever he could to help him beat the commie Jones. Jones released a weak statement of “same ole crap elected by the GOP backers” and such crap. Jones is nothing more than a YES boy and I MEAN BOY to Shoe-mer and Puke-lousy. He HAS GOT TO GO!!

Jones won because of the mess around Moore. Had say Sessions still been in that senate seat, there is no way, no way in hell Jones would have taken that seat from Sessions. Jones would have gone down hard. The mess around Moore caused a lot of people to just stay home and not vote. Many that I know who supported Moore did not vote for him in the election because of all the crap. They were just sick and tired of it and didn’t vote and Moore as we know lost. Had the GOP candidate not been under such a mess, Jones would not have won!!!
Yeah, we will have a football coach. Look what we have there now, a mostly bunch of career people who have never had a real job or run a business, or were lawyers. Might as well give “normal” people a chance to run the nation again instead of stinking life time politicians or lawyers.
