L.A. teachers union says schools can't reopen unless charter schools get shut down, police defunded

The Los Angeles Teachers Union says its schools can’t open in the fall unless charter schools are closed and the police are defunded.

These are the Marxist loons teaching your kids.

Oh, and they want more money.

83% of teachers voted to not reopen in the fall.
But they still expect to get paid.

Just the News reported:

United Teachers Los Angeles, a 35,000-strong union in the Los Angeles Unified School District, made those demands in a policy paper it released this week. The organization called on local authorities to “keep school campuses closed when the semester begins on Aug. 18.”

The union outlined numerous major provisions it says will be necessary to reopen schools again, including sequestering students in small groups throughout the school day, providing students with masks and other forms of protective equipment, and re-designing school layouts in order to facilitate “social distancing.”

Yet the union goes even farther than those requests, calling for “local support” in the form of defunded police departments and the shuttering of charter schools.

Police violence “is a leading cause of death and trauma for Black people, and is a serious public health and moral issue,” the union writes.

A few observations.

1. PDJT took too long to make Fauci look bad, and he still hasn’t succeeded. I believe he underestimated the evil intent and didn’t recognize it in time.
2. PDJT, IMO, is being outplayed by the teachers’ unions; I do not see or hear the parental outcry nor the demand to go back to school.
3. #1 above is driving #2, as the teachers view Fauci still as the expert, and PDJT has NOT been able to replace Fauci via any social media or other outlets as an expert.

I believe a whole lot more effort is needed or schools will not reopen in the fall and the fallout will be horrible.

Here in Cincinnati, I predict Cincy Public Schools will be part of the perpetually closed. It really sucks, too that the teachers and unions are holding charter schools hostage in this. And, no, it is NOT REALISTIC to just throw out toss away lines like, “just another reason to homeschool”...well, duh...but some folks can’t do it.

There is a dangerous psychosis about. Seems to permeate the liberal mind. I think they need a 45 cal mind scramble.

So the left wants to return to the way it was in the Wild West in 1880. Then, blacks were segregated, children were educated by their parents or not at all, and ppl took the law into their own hands because there were no police. All the money and lives spent freeing them, and this is the return on our investment. “Progressives” apparently prefer to regress.

If all goes well the California schools will never open again. Private and Charter schools will be in control. Praise the Lord.

We had the opposite occur when we attempted to homeschool our son in 1995. The Carlsbad School District called CPS on us. That was a long nightmare in itself.

“police are defunded”

Fire them if they don’t show up.

I doubt it, the teachers unions won’t allow their stakeholders’ pay to be withheld. Besides, the city will just condone this condition and raise taxes.

and re-designing school layouts in order to facilitate “social distancing.”

Redesigning school layouts? What do they expect with that? Building walls down the middle of each hallway, forcing students to only go in a clockwise direction?

Teaching, once it went online, can be outsourced to anywhere. Police departments, not so much.

The teachers' union opposition to charter schools is likely more of an issue now that the charter schools can pick up students if the public schools don't open.

Wish Trump could deal with the teachers the way Reagan dealt with the air traffic controllers. Fire them all, and let others fill their positions. I know a bunch of teachers, and most of them are idiots. I have no doubt that most stay-at-home mothers and fathers could do a far better job of educating children. Of course, you’d have to get rid of the NEA and most school administrators as well.

Don’t “fire” them. Announce you’ve accepted their resignations and their unilateral cancellation of their prior contract. And that you’ll honor their wishes by not accepting applications for replacement staff from union members.

If I were the commissioner I would fire them all and place adverts for replacements. It's not as if they're surgeons..... Defunding the police and closing charter schools?! Who the hell do they think they are?!

Yet another example of why you should not send your kids to public schools.

“ Outlaw NEA
Return absolute military style discipline to classrooms
Principal must have ABSOLUTE “firing” power on teachers
Restore History and Civics to Curriculum”

Those things cannot happen in today’s America, short of a shooting revolution.

Now that they are refusing to teach cut their pay and benefits to the bone. What do the school administrators have to lose? They are saying they aren’t going to teach no matter what. Take the offense and see how long they will hold out without pay and benefits. School boards can now take a strong stand and not have to blink.

Many of these so called teachers are all in for defunding the police. Do the same to them.
