Could Goya Foods be headed toward the Chick-fil-A effect, wherein the more leftists hate it, the more conservatives buy it? That may just well be the case.
Following Goya CEO Robert Unanues expressed Trump support and the Lefts subsequent threats to boycott the (Hispanic-owned) company, customers have actually been buying the product as a counter-protest. This has been described as a buy-cott.
According to Fox Business, the buy-cott began when radio host Mike Opelka encouraged people on Twitter to buy up $10 worth of Goya Food products.
My brother came up with a terrific idea and I am encouraging all to join me in purchasing $10 worth of Goya Foods products and donating them to your local food bank, Opelka tweeted. Lets push a BUY-cott, not a boycott. Lets show the #Goyaway people what compassion can do.
The tweet received over 27,000 likes, prompting many conservative commentators to promote the campaign.
Go out today and buy your Goya foods, Fox News host Mark Levin tweeted.
Most of these people fronting about a #GOYABOYCOTT either dont use Goya Foods anyways [a]nd most of the ones who do will cave by #NocheBuena, tweeted Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).
On Saturday, a GoFundMe was launched to raise money to feed the hungry using Goya Food products; it has since amassed over $43,000 dollars.
Im not surprised we have raised so much because people are tired of having to walk on eggshells in political discourse, Casey Harper, who started the GoFundMe, told FOX Business. Also, Americans are fundamentally generous people, so a chance to feed the hungry and stand up to cancel culture was an easy win.
The controversy over Goya Foods erupted last week when CEO Robert Unanue said America is truly blessed to have President Trump during a Rose Garden speech about the White Houses Hispanic prosperity initiative.
Were all truly blessed to have a leader like President Trump who is a builder, he said. We have an incredible builder, and we pray. We pray for our leadership, our president.
After leftists vowed to boycott his business, Unanue, who had previously worked with the Obama administration, said he will not be apologizing to the woke mob.
Youre allowed to talk good or to praise one president but youre not allowed when I was called to be part of this commission to aid in economic and educational prosperity, and you make a positive comment, all of the sudden thats not acceptable, he told Brian Kilmeade of Fox & Friends.
Im not apologizing for saying, Unanue continued. Especially if youre called by the President of the United States, youre going to say, No, Im sorry, Im busy, no thank you? I didnt say that to the Obamas and I didnt say that to President Trump.
President Trump also responded to the boycott calls by sharing an I Love Goya image that has since been circulating the web.
I don’t even like Mexican food, but I’ll buy some anyway.
I’m really tempted to make chili with Goya products now.
We occasionally buy Goya.
Now we will have more occasions..................
boycotts don’t work, it’s just fake news stories for the lazy media.
Goya, like Chick-fil-A, makes a quality product at a decent price.
Hard to sustain a boycott.
As long as they don’t cave like cfa did.
Get some of their Black Beans. Just plain yummy. I bought more last Friday.
Non-woke, not broke.
Goya rice is more expensive than some of the competitors, but it is tasty—goes great with chili or any other Mexican dish.
My local grocery store has one of those donate to the hungry things out front. Think I’ll go down and buy about $50 of Goya, etc and put it in the box.
You can find them in the aisle with the Mexican food.
Unlike Chick-Fil-A, their CEO is unlikely to brainlessly drool that employees and customers must shine black peoples’ shoes.
Quite an assortment available on Amazon.
Got Goya on my grocery list and heading out now.
This shows that radical lefties are far fewer in numbers than the treasonous gutter-crawling leftwing filthy media pretends.
RE:Who the hell is Goya? Never heard of them.
Well, you learn something new everyday, especially in FR.
From the Wikipedia page:
Goya Foods, Inc. is an American producer of a brand of foods sold in the United States and many Hispanic countries. It has facilities in different parts of the United States, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic and Spain. It is under third-generation ownership of the Unanue family, and is headquartered in Jersey City, New Jersey, US.
Goya was founded in 1936, by Prudencio Unanue Ortiz (18861976) from Valle de Mena, Spain. Unanue immigrated to Puerto Rico, where he met and married Carolina Casal (18901984), also a Spanish immigrant; they later moved to New York City. Ortiz purchased the “Goya” name from a Moroccan sardine company because he believed that his last name was too difficult to pronounce for American customers and also liked the association to Spanish artist Francisco Goya.
Goya manufactures and distributes products from the Spanish, Puerto Rican, Caribbean, Mexican, Cuban and Central and South American cuisine. Their products are sold in stores and supermarket chains throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and international markets. In 2006, Forbes ranked Goya 355th on its list of the largest private companies in the United States.
Between 2014 and 2016 Goya opened five new facilities including manufacturing and distribution centers located in New Jersey, Texas, California, and Georgia to meet rising consumer demand. Currently, Goya Foods is headquartered on a 40-acre (16 ha) lot in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Goya also operates a manufacturing facility in San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic, and a distribution center in Bayamón, Puerto Rico.
