Former special counsel Robert Mueller, in a very rare move, has written an op-ed for The Washington Post defending his office's prosecution of Roger Stone and saying he is still a convicted felon and "rightly so" in light of President Donald Trump's commutation of Stone.

He’s appealing his conviction. You’d much rather get the case thrown out on merit than get a pardon.
Stone’s conviction does stand unless he wins his appeal. We’ll see how that turns out.

I agree. But that doesn't mean a pardon might not come later should Roger's appeal fail which I do not believe it will. The evidence is pretty damning about the corruption in his case.

Stone said he was appealing. Don’t know if he did...so it may not be over yet.
he might get a pardon, after the election. the goal was to keep him out of jail but the impact on the election has to be considered.
Remember Bush commuted Scooter Libby’s sentence and kept him out of jail. Later Trump gave him the full pardon.
In both cases you can lay upon the judge the need for the commutation. Scooter was denied the opportunity to appeal before being forced into jail, Stone’s judge deliberately ignored the corrupt jury foreman in his case. Liberal judges want these guys in jail right away because they figure eventually they will get overturned, so they want to get that pound of flesh while they can.
Corrupt prosecutor, should be tried for what he did.
Unfortunately, Mueller’s corruption goes well beyond Russiagate. His entire career he has mounted abusive prosecutions to put his acquired targets in prison. Well, except the Whitey Bulger case where he protected criminals. Plus he has a stable of acolytes, like Fitzgerald, who think this kind of behavior is how Justice and the FBI ought to operate. A lifelong swamp dweller.
