It’s looking like Trump misspoke. We heard him say he was going to cancel DACA on day one. What he really meant was he was going to sign it into law.
But calling Trump in favor of amnesty is disingenuous. He was calling for a path to citizenship for DACA kids way back in 2016, so it’s not like he became a turncoat.

These two sentences together contradict one another. Granting the Dreamers a special path to citizenship that other immigrants do not get is a form of amnesty. It rewards the families of those who came here illegally. We can engage in mental gymnastics to ease the pain of swallowing the castor oil. We can even say things like, “Tanredo supports it and he’s an illegal immigration hard-ass”, but it’s still unjust and still sends the same bad message...namely those who come here illegally will get special treatment over those who do not.
We’ll be a one party country and it will happen anyway.

He knows that simply booting them out will be DOA with the Democrats controlling the House and with anti-Trump Republicans in the Senate. So what he is offering is something that would be rediculous and irrational to say no to, such as criminally background checking people for a history of crimes such as robbery, murder, etc, and examining what they plan to contribute via education and career.

That is already a part of DACA. You can’t get DACA status if you fail the criminal background check.
I have NEVER agreed with anyone 100%. Trump wasn't even my choice for president, but I'm damn glad he is my president and I'm going to support him regardless of a “this or that”.
Because of Trump's track record up till now...I know for certain I will be better off with him in office. He loses, we will likely lose the Senate. The house will remain in leftists hands and they will be in the driver's seat to pick the next two...possibly three supreme court justices.

The person I agreed with said it is taking the discussion away from the Democrats. But I don’t know if it will get him many votes because of it anyway.

You don’t know that. Most Latinos are good hard working people. They come with a good Christian foundation (mostly Catholic).
We’re not sending 20,000,000 to Mexico or Central America. Let’s send the ones that have committed violent crimes home.

Trump does not need to pass anything.
Congress established the current laws in the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952.
Trump is the Chief Executive Officer of the USA federal government. He swore to enforce our laws.
All Trump has to do is tell the Secretary of Homeland Security to remove the DACA kids because - according to the exact language in the INA 1952 - they are unlawfully present in the USA.
An Executive Order like that cannot even be reviewed by a federal judge.
The constitutionality of the law can be challenged, but it remains in force until the Supreme Court overturns it.
Bottom Line...
Trump has made it clear since 2015 that he will never deport any DACAs, unless they are dangerous criminals.

It’s amnesty if that happens. Going to turn off a lot of people in key electoral States, especially if the economy isn’t up to snuff.
