JOSÉ DÍAZ-BALART
Mr. President, Latinos are on the frontline in many ways. They're tending our fields, transporting our goods. They're on the frontline in the hospitals and as many as 30,000 hospital workers are DACA recipients and yet you seem to be laser-focused on deporting DACA.
PRESIDENT TRUMP
Yeah.
JOSÉ DÍAZ-BALART
Why?
PRESIDENT TRUMP
I'm not. I'm taking care of DACA. I had a deal with the Democrats and they broke the deal. The DACA could have been taken care of two years ago, but the Democrats broke the deal. All of a sudden they just broke it for no reason. Actually, they had a court case that slightly went their way, and they said, "Oh, let's not talk about the deal anymore". You remember that. We talked about it.
JOSÉ DÍAZ-BALART
Uh-hum.
PRESIDENT TRUMP
The deal was done. DACA is going to be just fine. Were putting it in. It's going to be just fine. And I am going to be, over the next few weeks, signing an immigration bill that a lot of people don't know about. You have breaking news, but I'm signing a big immigration bill.
JOSÉ DÍAZ-BALART
Is that an executive order?
PRESIDENT TRUMP
I'm going to do a big executive order. I have the power to do it as prresident and I'm going to make DACA a part of it. But, we put it in, and we'll probably going to then be taking it out. We're working out the legal complexities right now, but I'm going to be signing a very major immigration bill as an executive order, which the Supreme Court now, because of the DACA decision, has given me the power to do that.
JOSÉ DÍAZ-BALART
Just so I can understand better, so you're planning to include a provision for DACA under an executive order?
PRESIDENT TRUMP
That is correct.
JOSÉ DÍAZ-BALART
To give the 750,000 people legalization, at least temporary?
PRESIDENT TRUMP
No, what I'm going to do is that they're going to part of a much bigger bill on immigration. It's going to be a very big bill, a very good bill, and merit-based bill and it will include DACA, and I think people are going to be very happy.
In the meantime, well put it in, we'll take it out... I think people are going to be very happy with it, but one of the aspects of the bill, which, frankly, nobody knows about until right now, because I told no another reporter, so you have breaking news. Congratulations. But one of the aspects of the bill is going to be DACA. We're going to have a road to citizenship.
JOSÉ DÍAZ-BALART
Ok, so that's.... that's an executive order, not as a congressional bill.
PRESIDENT TRUMP
If you look at the Supreme Court ruling, they gave the president tremendous powers when they said that you could take in, in this case, 700 thousand or so people, so they gave powers. Based on the powers that they gave, I'm going to be doing an immigration bill. One of the aspects of the bill that you will be very happy with, and that a lot of people will be, including me and a lot of Republicans, by the way, will be DACA. It will give them a road to citizenship
JOSÉ DÍAZ-BALART
When is this going to be...?
PRESIDENT TRUMP
I would say over the next four weeks.
Spoke to administration sources: The EO does not include a path to immigration for DACA recipients... because it's entirely illegal. The Trump Administration is still working on rescinding DACA.
This EO is going to be all merit based immigration prioritizing based on skill https://t.co/AL4O7hKLpf— Ryan James Girdusky (@RyanGirdusky) July 10, 2020
path to citizenship... not immigration... it's been a long day fam— Ryan James Girdusky (@RyanGirdusky) July 10, 2020
I thought he stopped listening to the toddlers. I guess not.
Cool, we have to let the Republicans destroy the country with amnesty, or else the Democrats will destroy the country with amnesty!
What a wonderful choice we have!
“Es el chess de quatro dimensiones”
“In the meantime, well put it in, we’ll take it out...”
Has got me stumped.
Most of them are socially conservative and can find a home under Trump...
If he does it right, he can bring a good percentage of them over to the GOP...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Same lame argument was used the last THREE amnesty attempts by Bush League Republicans.
Amnesty will give the Democrats a permanent majority.
He is going to use this to put in some stuff that Is very tough and the Dems will hate. He is going to dare lower courts to say that it is illegal without Congressional approval after the Supreme Court decision just allowing the non- Congresionally approved DACA to stand.
It is going to be hard for some judge to throw Trumps EO out on that basis because of what the Supreme Court just decided.
Trump is going to dot all of the Is and cross all of the Ts in following the administrative procedures required for rule making so that the EO has the maximum force of law. Obama did not do that yet DACA still stands.
The President is going to put the other side in a box and they will not like it at all.
It will get back to the Supreme Court and they will be forced to explain why Obama had the power to enact immigration law without approval of congress while Trump does not. Delicious!
I agree! Quatro dimension chess. The man always has a plan. Have faith people.
I LOVE him.
What a way to double down..
This is what I think Trumps brain thought: “The Supreme Court says that Obama’s illegal Executive Order can not be eliminated because the President has so much power...”
“Ok then... I AM PRESIDENT!, with the power given to me as a President, I will make another executive order and get what I want, Buahaah!”, “ And I will take away..”, “On DACA I will take..” Ah.. lets talks about something else, you’ll find out in four weeks”
Lol! That said its a good move. He met with the Mexican President other day and they talked about managing immigration. Just let the DACA folks go...a few hoops, but thats it.
No puedo escribir mis pensamientos sobre esto. Estaria prohibido.
I’m just here to read the read the stupid.
They live and talk conservatively but vote left.
It was a stupid argument when advanced by McCain and Grahamnesty and again when advance by Micro Rubio and Grahamnesty again.
Good grief! Just wait to hear the details. What’s all the knee jerk reactions.
OMG, the president is going to put DACA in this?
Wow. I admire him more everyday.
I honestly don’t believe that’s true, Mariner.
[TRUST THE PLAN!]
This is one reason why I support Trump, as long as he doesn’t stray too far off the reservation, but don’t actually like him. He’s like the tiger in a Siegried and Roy performance - you think he’s tame and a part of the program, but every so often, he lashes out and mauls you. This is one of those moments.
From what he was quoted as saying, it sounds as if the DACA candidates would have to qualify for citizenship by specific criteria. My guess is that his Order would put them in the category of anyone else applying for immigration, and that if you don't qualify, you get sent home.
What’s really sickwning is he says he’s gonna do it by executive order. So he’s just giving it up on his own. And even if he pretends it is worthwhile by some supposedly tough measure he’s including, that titan’s matter, because the EO can be undone—and DACA millions, plus all their chain migration attachments, will be on the citizenship path.
He’s obviously not talking about deporting them.
