As the mainstream media all but declares the 2020 election for Joe Biden, Democrats are making mistakes. Theyre saying and doing things that could cause problemsif Republicans step up their game.
Consider the congressional logjam over police reform. After George Floyds death in Minneapolis, the nation was angry and aghast. Then Rayshard Brooks was killed in Atlanta, and the demand for change grew even stronger.
Yet when the Senate moved to take up the comprehensive police reform bill introduced by Tim Scott (R., S.C.), Democrats blocked its consideration, despite the bills many similarities with the Democratic Houses measure. Sen. Scott guaranteed votes on any amendments Democrats wanted, but no matter.
This intransigence is an opportunity to argue that Senate Democrats are more interested in election talking points than giving meaning to the deaths of Floyd, Brooks, Breonna Taylor and others by passing legislation that reforms policing.
Republicans can broaden the issue by pointing out that while a new law can solve certain pressing problems, the criminal-justice system needs a systematic review. A bill by Sens. John Cornyn (R., Texas) and Gary Peters (D., Mich.) creating a National Criminal Justice Commission would do that, reporting to the next Congress on additional reform measures. This passed the Senate by unanimous consent in 2018 but died in the House.
By pressing for the Scott bill now and the Cornyn-Peters commission to follow, Republicans can show theyre determined to turn the nations pain into something good. If everybody mobilizes, the GOP can regain the offensive.
Another opening for Republicans came Sunday, when CNNs Dana Bash asked Sen. Tammy Duckworthwhos being vetted as a possible running mate for Mr. Bidenif statues of George Washington should be taken down.

if Republicans step up their game

What game would that be? They are spectators, not players.
romney too busy worrying about his connections to Bain Capital and Pimp Maxwell’s father.
I dont think Romney is a pedophile.
HOWEVER, some of his financial dealings could come to light
A lot of murkey shadowy stuff could come out in trial
BUT
No way well Maxwell ever go to trial.
She pleads, she dies...or she fake dies and they give her a new identity
With Karl Rove, I just cannot get over the stench of GWB.
Oh, I missed that. This article now makes perfect sense.
Remember, this was the person who told everyone about how much he was for Reagan in 1980 and then it was discovered that he actually worked for GHWB to get the nomination instead of Reagan.
Rove trying to quash the emerging powerhouse that is John James.
Voter reaction: "ZZZZZzzzzz...."
Indeed - for example, almost every Democrat in the Senate up for re-election voted against outlawing infanticide - does anywhere near a majority of voters in any state, let alone states like Michigan, Minnesota, etc. support that? Of course not. Those Senators should be forced on the defensive for that vote - they should be hit hard for it.
Same way with the House. Nearly every Democrat voted to give massive tax breaks to the super rich, as well as give the EITC to wealthy investors. They should be on the defensive for this.
Another problem is that conservatives aren’t as well organized in fundraising for localized candidates. There are certainly at least a million (actually a lot more than that) conservatives would be be able and willing to chip in an average donation of $10.00 to every candidate in a competitive race to give them an ample war chest to wage a campaign of $10 million. Imagine if all of the Republican candidates in the so-called second-tier races suddenly had this kind of a war chest. The problem is that there is no network set up to organize this.
By and large Republicans don’t want to be leaders. There is no fire in them at all. No passion or strongly held convictions. They are like flotsam floating down the river.
Trump is the opposite, of course, and he actually stands up for his beliefs. In so doing, he shines an unfavorable light on the rest of his party. Which is why so many in the party detest him.
The thought of working in government does not animate conservatives the way it does liberals.

That is certainly true. And if you’re white, don’t even think about it. There is no upward mobility potential whatsoever and your ambitions will be crushed by preferences for others.
creating a National Criminal Justice Commission
With a budget and staff that will never go away. This is why we are in such debt. The government should do something. Then they do and it does nothing but ensure its own survival. We have so many duplicate government organizations.
Sorry. I don’t agree with Turdblossom.
I still kind of, sort of have some smidgen of hope that the already elected Republicans actually stand up and fight for those who voted and put them in office. Most are just damn disappointing.
