Supreme Court decisions likely Thursday in fight over Trump tax returns, financial records
NBC ^ | 07 08 2020 | Pete Williams

The Supreme Court said it will announce the last of the decisions from its current term on Thursday, which almost certainly means the court will reveal its rulings on whether Congress and a New York state prosecutor can get access to President Donald Trump's business records, including his tax returns.

The Trump rulings will be announced beginning at 10 a.m. ET, unless the court is unable to reach a decision and wants them held over to be reargued next term, which seems unlikely.

Three House committees issued subpoenas for several years' worth of financial records from Mazars, the Trump organization's accounting firm, and two banks that loaned money to Trump businesses — Capital One and Deutsche Bank.

House Democrats said they believed Trump's tax returns might provide insights into a question special counsel Robert Mueller never answered: Did Trump borrow money from Russian entitles or otherwise do business with them before he became president? He has consistently denied any such relationship.

Roberts is going to allow them to have Trump’s tax returns. Anyone disagree?

Agreed. It’s ridiculous how open and shut this should be. What a cancer they are.

If he does then he’s interfering in an election. It will be a disaster if so.

If the court could delay Trump tax ruling until after the election, I wouldn’t be surprised if they did not do that. It is politically charged now, after the election they can rule on the constitutional merits of the law. I vote for this as their action, if not, then to protect them as second choice. Or, maybe they send it back down for new hearings or something that gets it off their table and lets the lawyers wrestle with it.

Well Roberts, how hard did you fall on your head?

This is purely a political move by the left. That the SC would even take it up is quite telling that the SC wants to be part of politics and cares not about the Constitution.

It makes me sick.

This is an obvious fishing expedition looking to shame, embarrass, intimidate, and potentially “Cancel”, anyone who has done business with President Trump and the dems should lose this highly inappropriate request. The media would probably overdose on their newly bestowed license to maliciously attack their new target list that will be compiled and released in record time.

The IRS undoubtedly would have already leaked any significant legal transgressions as I have little doubt these massive types of returns are regularly and thoroughly “audited”.

Even so, I suspect your presumption is correct.

Now we know why Roberts had his Harry Reid “accident” when the cases were being decided last month.

You really believe that the USSC will authorize Congress to fish for Democrat returns and other records?

I concur with your ‘fishing expedition’ assessment. The Ds don’t really care how much money PDJT made or how much in taxes his corporations paid. If fraud was rampant in PDJT’s taxes, he or someone in his accounting firm(s) would already be in jail.

If he does, then the DOJ might very well have a right to air some of the real dirt they have on Biden...which isn’t coming out because of the perception of not interfering in an election.

We need to see financial records of every member of Congress. They all become far more wealthy than their congressional salary provides.

Will be 5-4 with Roberts siding with the liberal justices.
