Lt. Gov Spencer Cox has bested Jon Huntsman, the former Utah governor who was seeking a third term, in the primary race for Utah governor.
Huntsman didnt indicate what would come next for him but said that public service is in our blood
Cox will face Democrat Chris Peterson, a University of Utah law professor, in the contest for a seat Democrats havent won in 40 years.
Cox has served at nearly every level of local government, before winning election to the Utah House. He was still a freshman state representative in 2013, when Herbert plucked him from relative obscurity to serve as his second-in-command.
Huntsman who, [was] twice elected as governor, had served different administrations as U.S. ambassador to Russia, China and Singapore. The Huntsman name has been revered because of the chemical business, cancer foundation and numerous philanthropic efforts
Throughout the race, Cox has portrayed the matchup between him and Huntsman as the biblical David vs. Goliath fight,
Cox built his lead with Wasatch Front counties and the more rural jurisdictions that he catered to during his John Deere-themed campaign, Huntsman was more popular in the states urban population centers.
Cox visited all 248 cities and towns in the state . He also won the nomination at the state Republican Party Convention and was the first candidate to gather the 28,000 signatures needed to earn a spot on the primary election ballot.
He also had to fend off criticisms from his opponents, who have made an issue of his decision to leave the state to work in the Obama administration.
Cox has brought in 36% of the vote to Huntsmans 35%.
The disease also took a personal toll on Huntsman, who tested positive for COVID-19

Thanks...older now, but still keeping up well.

Who is the “HE” referred to as going to work for Obummer?
Poorly written sentences.
I’m sorry. LOL
I hope this doesn’t affect your future posts. I love them.
Thanks, Doc.
Huntsman is a total RINO!
I think Cruz would not have been far from Trump on policy or judicial picks. They differ greatly in public style.
So Cox made a choice - backed Cruz - based on style. That also was not hard for a Republican who believed he was favoring a Conservative established Republican with a record vs a newly minted Republican with no public office record.
I am not a “never Trumper”, but in 2016 I think Cox felt most strongly against Trump based on style and on all he did not yet know about Trump the elected office holder vs what he felt he did know, from the record, about Cruz.
I would have preferred Cox to Huntsman anyway.
