Within days of the first confirmed novel coronavirus case in the United States on 20 January, antivaccine activists were already hinting on Twitter that the virus was a scam—part of a plot to profit from an eventual vaccine.
Nearly half a year later, scientists around the world are rushing to create a COVID-19 vaccine. An approved product is still months, if not years, away and public health agencies have not yet mounted campaigns to promote it. But health communication experts say they need to start to lay the groundwork for acceptance now, because the flood of misinformation from antivaccine activists has surged.
Such activists have “kicked into overdrive,” says Neil Johnson, a physicist at George Washington University who studies the dynamics of antivaccine groups on social networks. He estimates that in recent months, 10% of the Facebook pages run by people asking questions about vaccines have already switched to antivaccine views.
Recent polls have found as few as 50% of people in the United States are committed to receiving a vaccine, with another quarter wavering. Some of the communities most at risk from the virus are also the most leery: Among Black people, who account for nearly one-quarter of U.S. COVID-19 deaths, 40% said they wouldn’t get a vaccine in a mid-May poll by the Associated Press and the University of Chicago. In France, 26% said they wouldn’t get a coronavirus vaccine.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is now working on a plan to boost “vaccine confidence” as part of the federal effort to develop a vaccine, Director Robert Redfield told a Senate committee this week. Advocates urge campaigns that include personal messages and storytelling.

There isn’t going to be any vaccine, this virus is doing what all viruses do... It’s weakening and eventually it will peter out and disappear. Problem solved... Except of course for the millions who will be unemployed and unemployable because of closures of businesses that will never reopen.
The question isn’t whether its a good idea to get a vaccine known to work well and have extremely rare side effects. The poll is picking up exactly the suspicion that the opposite might be the case. “You go first.”

what will be injected is not really a vaccine at all in the conventional sense, but instead is a live, laboratory-made synthetic virus/plasmid that they HOPE will produce a COVID antibody protein in response to DNA of covid antigens spliced into the synthetic virus/plasmid after the synthetic virus/plasmid enters your cells and hijacks their machinery, and then they hope that subsequent antibody protein will provide covid immunity ...
heretofore, such recombinant DNA/RNA techniques splices the DNA squences of the target antigens into a synthetic virus/plasmid (circular DNA) combination but mixes the synthetic virus/plasmid into a bioreactor containing immortal cell lines (usually perpetually-dividing cancer cells) where the synthetic virus/plasmid invades the cells, multipies and produces the target antigens encoded in the synthetic virus/plasmid. Then the antigen protein that was produced is extracted and purified, and which in turn is the only active ingredient in the vaccine when it’s injected into people being vaccinated. This gene therapy “vaccine” technology is not even really a new technology at all because it’s been around for a while, but big pharma knew that they could never get away with such gene therapy experimentation on billions of people UNTIL covid came along and the FDA could eliminate the bulk of their previous vaccine safety requirements because covid emergency ...

The vaccine debate is just like the evolution debate and the global warming debate. True science provides evidence on both sides.
But also on all sides is junk science. Studies with confirmation bias that set out to prove the thesis. The data I work with was the subject of one such flu vaccine study by a big Health IT company. The study made several major logic and math errors that made the results meaningless. They proved neither that flue vaccines are safe and effective, nor otherwise.
Until the honest, competent scientists step up and correct the studies on their own side that are garbage, the problem will continue.
Of course, this could be compared to non-science studies/investigations. When it became obvious that there was no Russian Collusion, one liberal got on Medium, a leftist dominated site and urged her fellow leftists to recognize reality and not make Trump a sympathetic figure. But ALMOST all other leftists who knew it was false, would not stand up for the facts and truth.
The same thing happens on the right. A troll makes some claim that Trump supporters find convenient to believe.
Many on both sides seem to think that standing up for a liar will somehow benefit their side.
As I stated on another thread, public health has done a major disservice by letting anti vaccine folks slam the Covid-19 vaccine.

Sorry, I don’t follow.
Smallpox didn’t weaken or disappear on its own. It killed hundreds of millions of people over thousands of years. It didn’t stop killing people until a vaccine was developed and widely deployed. Then, after thousands of years, it was gone in just a few years.
NO WAY will I take this damn vaccine not no bet HELL NO!!!
No one has been mentioned the obvious. Do you want near 100% cooperation for getting a Covid vaccination? Your boss will require it. Watch and see if businesses and corporations don’t make mandatory vaccines a requirement for all employees.
