Russian defense industry sources have disclosed the new details of the electromagnetic pulse cannon capable of hitting targets 6 miles away.

The new super cannon will be able to shoot down aircraft and aerial drones by an electromagnetic pulse.

“The trials of EMP weapons have been under way since 2015. The latest firing of EMP cannons took place this spring. At present, the average range of EMP cannons against aerial targets is 7-8 km, with the maximum of 10 km,” one of the sources said, adding that the range of such weapons was previously estimated at 1-2 km.

This would actually be a very dangerous terrorist weapon.

Smuggle them into a country and then take out their electric grid.

EMP would have little effect on the F-4 because they have analog flight controls, not fly by wire.

And the avionics?

***and illegal highway protesters)***

I would settle for a couple of rows of Claymore mines along the sides of my truck.

Hard to make promises like the “range of an RF weapon” as stated in this article.

Physics and electromagnetic shielding require vast amounts of power to overcome at range, perhaps more than can be transmitted from a single point source due to ionization/ breakdown of air.

It’s a good story though.

Despite the cheese factor, I liked the series.

I’ve met Erin and Gil at DragonCons way back. Both seem like good people.

You would be surprised how much still used vacuum tubes (immune to EMP) in the 70s.
