Defund the universities: Why should tax payers send money to elite colleges that are are almost 100% hard left-wing bubbles?

Fed up with Defund the Police? Worried that hordes of “peaceful protestors” might soon show up to burn and pillage your neighborhood? Want to make your views known but unsure where to begin?

Here’s a way to hit back: DEFUND THE UNIVERSITIES.

It’s no secret that much of the radical ideology fueling the Black Lives Matter and Antifa riots are the product of our dysfunctional higher educational system. Universities today are almost 100% hard left-wing bubbles, openly hostile to any conservative thought. They are intolerant of opposing opinions, the very opposite of the kind of dialogue intended for higher education, and so desperately needed today. These Molotov-cocktail wielding radicals are the end product of years of propaganda from left-wing professors.

Colleges may hate conservatives, but they will be forced to listen – and change – if you target their pocketbooks. And colleges and universities are vulnerable, especially with the current double-whammy of lower student enrollment and the coronavirus taking its toll.

Here’s a modest outline of how to begin. Ideally some enterprising legislator will help to put these into law. If BLM can force “radical change” on society why can’t conservatives push through a few modest proposals of our own?

Stop Donating:

Every alumnus should write to their college ASAP to state that not a single penny will be given until things change significantly. This is your chance to be heard, so let them have it with both barrels! (I’ve attached my letter to Duke below). In fact, go it one better and tell them that you will do your best to convince other alumni to stop donating as well. We are in an ideological war – you need to show them whose side you are on.

Unfortunately, the indoctrination begins well before any
student gets to college. It begins in grade school and continues through high school.

I say defund/abolish the NEA, get local control of the schools. Fire “Teachers” that propagandize our young skulls
full of mush instead of teaching reading, writing, math, history, science. Hold ALL students to the same standard of excellence, regardless of ethnicity (not race, there is only one:human.

You run Soviet style schools , you get Soviet style education. They are simply too far gone to the left side. You can't fix them. Solution? Stop paying for them! If parents had to pay for their kids education directly you can bet they would insist on quality, or they would take their business elsewhere!

Any so-called teacher that deviates from the three R’s needs to be fired immediately.

Children are being propagandized by this indoctrination system the NEA has put in place.

Even in conservative areas of the country, the teachers in the elementary and high schools are predominately Left leaning. Taxpayer money used to teach children that America is bad.

Not only do they not pay taxes on their endowments, they also do not pay on the “investment growth” of existing endowment money.

Tax the endowments...what a great idea! The mob bosses in ‘The Dark Knight’ compromised with the Joker for 50%, which sounds reasonable to me...hit them for 50%...we’re talking BILLIONS...use it for stimulus checks...bwa-ha-ha!

If there’s going to be student loans, they should only subsidize academic disciplines that lead to careers where there is a shortage & high ROI - Return On Investment (taxes). The labor department, trade and professional organizations collect and publish these statistics.

The new department of education:
Gut and restructure the DOE
No outside funding unless it is reviewed by commission within the department,
Each university is required to submit and curriculum to be approved by the board it will consist of a pro American, pro American history major
Funding by the tax payer will only be implemented when curriculum is accepted.,
Agents will be dispersed at intervals to make sure ciriculum is followed.
Re interview of university professor and faculty to insure a pro American stance

Reposting my June 12th reply to a post that day:

Just a suggestion: Let’s start a new movement—Defund the Public Colleges

Why should we send tax dollars to colleges that are indoctrinating our kids to hate our country, its laws, and its founders?

At least defund the social studies, English, poli sci, etc., departments that are almost entirely populated by leftists today.

Defund the Public Colleges! (We’ve got to start somewhere in taking back our country. This is as good a place as any.)

Well, yes, stop donating. But people don’t donate because they “believe” in the university (most of the time). The big donations come with a bid for immortality: “Smith Hall” “the William H. Macy Student Center.”

The four sources of university funding are:
1) donations/endowments
2) sports and TV revenue
3) federal (and a few state) contracts)
4) tuition

Now, #1 is going to take a HUGE hit from BLM when people first see BLM logos on U of Texas or UCLA uniforms. The donations will flee. Already UT has gotten strong warnings from its donors on this. But it WILL happen.
Sports will not pull in either the fan $ or the television money if no one is watching in the stands (China Virus) or on TV.
3) Trump has been working on this, especially as related to Chicom researchers. Unfortunately, the military does a TON of business with schools. At U of Dayton, where I taught, Wright Patterson had many standing contracts with the Kettering Labs, which charged outrageous (50%) overhead.
4) Watch this one. I expect enrollments/actual college in person student #s to plummet, maybe by 30% this year. Tuitions will crash. Think of all the scholarships that are based on covering “room and board.” Those are likely to be revisited if kids aren’t staying on campus.

In short, across the board we have an opportunity to seriously defund the colleges, and not just out of ideological reasons, but for very practical ones.

The engineering, math, physics and medicine schools are hard to corrupt, it’s the rest that suck.

Too many Republicans are rah-rah school spirit types. On one occasion when I asked a Republican legislator why we’re not going after universities he replied that it would hurt football recruiting.

Want diversity? Half of the faculty must be Republicans (not counting RINOs).

I agree. First we need to raise awareness. And the best way to do that is to post commentaries like this one on FR.

FreeRepublic is the marketing arm of conservative ideas.

I strongly suspect that conservative writers regularly check FreeRepublic to see how their latest commentary fared on FR. How many comments did it get? What were the comments?

Defund colleges, not cops | Spectator USA

That storyline intersects with ‘Defund the Colleges’ in two ways. COVID is already defunding American higher education. Colleges and universities across the country are claiming shutdown-induced deficits in the tens and sometimes hundreds of millions of dollars.
