Was it caused by people wearing masks? Was it caused by law abiding, drug-free people? And how about the young, white addicts starting Black Lives Matter riots to tie the hands of police and evade arrests?

Who is at fault for the problems of the addicts? People who don't do drugs?

Unfortunately, someone who’s been clean for a long time takes the same dose they were taking before they quit, their body doesn’t have the same tolerance and it kills them.

Ping, just in case you're interested in more of what's behind the strangeness of the matter.

“she “most definitely” thinks isolation caused his death.”

His choice to do drugs “most definitely” caused his death.

Struggling with drug addiction?

Wouldn’t “enjoying his drug addiction” be a bit more accurate, and even somewhat cheerful? He died doing what he loved doing most...drugs. Some die playing golf...some die doing drugs. Who am I to judge?

Certainly addicts are at fault for their own behavior, but it is also true that confining people to their homes creates a lot of stress, and people under stress are more prone to substance abuse, suicide, and all sorts of self-destructive behaviors. Doesn’t society bear some responsibility when it imposes conditions that are known for a certainty to exacerbate societal problems?

It’s always a rough deal for moms who can easily overlook their kids failures or downplay them over seeing the good in their kids.

She knew he was an addict and could resort back at any time.....he did and he died for doing so.

Isolation is deadly for the alcoholic and drug addict

Your smugness indicates a lack of knowledge about it

No.

Drug addicts are where they’re at because they chose drugs.

Or the same dose they were taking before being sent home from a job? Maybe some of them, unable to get drugs from coworkers after the layoff or furlough, go to other dealers and sometimes get hot shots (overdoses).

That’s why many of the addicts can’t handle being furloughed or laid off from restaurants. Those places and related businesses (like bars) are now generally notorious for drug activity. Whole communities of restaurant owners in some cities have publicly bragged in recent years about hiring convicts to “rehabilitate” them.

But what about customers who eat food or have drinks in those places? Drinks tainted with date rape drugs are now far more common.

As Paul Harvey said, “Now you know the rest of the story.”

I can feel sympathy, but I have to give the majority of my sympathy to people who have lost their jobs, businesses, and incomes, because they are under enormous stresses, have families to care for and bills to pay, and don’t resort to taking dangerous drugs that can kill them.

There are people who have taken guns to their heads over this situation. All of this needs to be taken into account by people who wish the lockdown to stay in place indefinitely. It isn’t without cost. And just because it doesn’t show up in payroll statistics, stock prices, or hospital bed occupancy stats, it is taking a toll.

I am sick of politicians and our fellow citizens who want this to go on ad nauseum as if it were a long vacation.

This guy was responsible for his own death. Nobody did this to him, he did this to himself. But it is also a fact this is driving people to despair, even if they aren’t doing themselves in.

Well it’s a little more complicated then that when one has a history of mental issues. So while you are technically correct, it’s more complicated then just the simple answer you provide. He had been clean for 8 years. The lockdown and isolation provided the trigger to seek relief that he got from his work and social interactions, from the alternative he knew..

“So while you are technically correct, it’s more complicated then just the simple answer you provide.”

And it is far more complicated than the isolation killed him and the isolation killed him rationalization is far easier than her son was an addict.

Alright. What about the suicides then? Society bear any fault for pushing people with mental issues over the edge when we know full well that will be the result?

Or can society just do whatever it pleases to people and if that happens to cause havoc, we shrug and say “not our fault”?

"...but it is also true that confining people to their homes creates a lot of stress, and people under stress are more prone to substance abuse, suicide, and all sorts of self-destructive behaviors."

Relaxing, getting exercise and other activities at home and elsewhere are not stressful as compared to the workplace for straight people.

The epidemic has disrupted the usual networks of drug abuse, though, including sources connected to service businesses. Drug traffic connections across borders have also changed because of the measures taken against the coronavirus epidemic involving border traffic (much more closed). Addicts get momentarily frustrated while finding different sources, and voila, hot shots become more common.

Some might even see it as another positive consequence of the epidemic.
