DENVER – Right-wing restaurateur Lauren Boebert defeated incumbent Rep. Scott Tipton handily in Colorado’s Third Congressional District Republican primary Tuesday just one day after President Trump gave a Twitter endorsement to Tipton.

Tipton conceded the race just after 9 p.m. Tuesday.

“3rd District Republicans have decided who they want to run against the Democrats this November. I want to congratulate Lauren Boebert and wish her and her supporters well,” Tipton said in a statement.

As of 9:10 p.m. Boebert led Tipton by 9 percentage points, 54% to 46%, though the Associated Press had yet to call the race.

Tipton is in his fifth term as the Third Congressional District representative, but Boebert challenged him from the right this year in an effort to win over more-conservative voters who believe Tipton has sided with Democrats too often on bipartisan deals.

Boebert owns Shooters Grill in Rifle, where employees open-carry firearms while serving and which was shut down by health officials when she opened in lieu of Colorado public health guidance last month.

Boebert has touted her Second Amendment bonafides during the campaign. Her website says she is “heading to Congress to drain the swamp, stand up for our rights, and tell all the left-wing lunatics we don’t want more government control, we want our freedom!”

She has received support from some county sheriffs on the Western Slope and gained national attention last year when she yelled at then-presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke at a rally, “Hell no, you won’t take our guns.”

She also discussed being interested in the QAnon conspiracy theory in an online show captured by Media Matters.

“No, honestly, everything that I’ve heard of Q, I hope that this is real. Because it only means that America is getting stronger and better, and people are returning to conservative values, and that’s what I am for,” she said in the interview clip. “And so, everything that I have heard about this movement is only motivating and encouraging and bringing people together, stronger. And if this is real, then it can be really great for our country.”

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairwoman Cheri Bustos called on Republicans to denounce Boebert because of the QAnon statements.

“Not even multiple endorsements from President Trump could save Congressman Scott Tipton from his extreme, QAnon caucus challenger. Washington Republicans should immediately disavow Lauren Boebert and her extremist, dangerous conspiracy theories,” Bustos said in a statement.

Tipton’s defeat comes after President Trump tweeted support on Monday.

"Congressman @ScottRTipton is a great supporter of the #MAGA Agenda! He fights for your #2A rights and the Border Wall. Scott is working hard for Colorado and has my Complete and Total Endorsement! #CO03,” the president tweeted.

Tipton had handily won most of his prior elections. In 2018, he defeated Diane Mitsch Bush by nearly 8 percentage points. In 2016, he won by more than 14 percentage points, and in 2014, he won by more than 22 points.

Now, Boebert will face Mitsch Bush in this year’s General Election.

She defeated James Iacino 61% to 39% in the Democratic primary in the Third Congressional District, according to 9 p.m. returns.

This is a developing news story and will be updated.

I have been there.

So you went into the kitchen, into the back area? If so what did you see? I don't trust any of the globalist/libertarian 'R' players. The are all guilty until proven innocent.

Boebert is a shoo-in to win in November...

Hopefully.

...and Trump will win Colorado by a Landslide.

Only if a giant meteor takes out the entire Front Range from Ft. Collins in the north to Pueblo in the south. Otherwise, Colorado will vote solidly for whoever has the (D) next to their name.

Wish I could say otherwise about the state I called home for the first 34 years of my life.

Trump’s endorsements are all over the map, and that’s because he endorses candidates not based on their politics, but on whether he thinks they will win. The unfortunate downside of this is that it really hurts his credibility with his base.

Why don’t you just go away. Everyone is a globalist and a “free traitor” to you. I hope your medical plan covers all that psychiatric care.

It’s going to be an interesting election with all the incumbents on both sides getting bumped off in primaries.

Hope she gets elected and struts onto the floor of the house with that pistol strapped to her leg.

It would make for an interesting visual but the Capitol Police would stop her.

Wonder if they would dare arrest her for violating DC law?

They would for violating federal law. No guns allowed in the Capitol except law enforcement officers.

The Republican Party is shrinking, almost disappearing, and ignorant greedy stupid globalists like you never get it. We real Americans, i.e. working class, have to verify first then maybe we can start to trust any given Republican. Like I said they are all guilty to proven innocent. Look a Sen Lee (R) Mumbai. He is a classic example of a bait and switch.

The fact my comment invoked a response from my favorite globalist stooge cheap labor hack, you, means I am over the target!!! I play you like a fiddle.

The fact that you call me a “globalist stooge cheap labor hack” means you haven’t played me for sh!t, dude. You don’t even know anything about me. You’re just an ignorant malcontent who has been polluting this website for far too long.

You're a Republican defender and should always be on your heels.

Watch the first 10-15 minutes of Tucker from 6/30/20.

I’m not even a Republican, dude. I’ll take a Republican over a Democrat any day of the week, but I’ve never been averse to supporting third-party candidates when the Republican is a duplicitous @sshole. That’s why I never voted for the GOP presidential candidate in 2004, 2008 or 2012.

If our objective is to rally voters to our cause, how do we best accomplish that?

I believe we should support candidates who share our political objectives, and help celebrate their wins.

I believe we should be delighted when those voters swing toward our "better" candidates. People are waking up, and they are voting in greater numbers for the survival of the nation, and for the survival of all of human civilization.

I don’t trust anyone in politics. Just because she is hot and has a pistol strapped to her thigh doesn’t mean sh!t in the LONG run. We will see.

This woman confronted Beto during his campaign and gave a determined speech about gun rights in an angry crowd. One tried to shout her down by telling her: “You don’t need to bring your AR-15” and she responded: “I don’t have my AR-15 with me, I have my Glock, and I’ve got your back.”

Nice! Tough girl for 5’ 100 lbs.
