JACKSON, Miss. (AP) With a stroke of the governors pen, Mississippi is retiring the last state flag in the U.S. with the Confederate battle emblem a symbol thats widely condemned as racist.
Republican Gov. Tate Reeves on Tuesday signed the historic bill that takes the 126-year-old state flag out of law, immediately removing official status for the banner that has been a source of division for generations.

Man, who knew that a COVID-19 positive person could violate quarantine while on parole, do drugs, try to pass a fake $20 and change a state’s flag.
Just goes to show you the power of one man.

Is there something in the Mississippi Constitution that limits the legislature only to issues that were foreseeable to the voters when they were elected?

After a white gunman who had posed with the Confederate flag killed Black worshipers at a South Carolina church in 2015 PBS is trash. Defund them before the police, please.

They elected a legislature and a governor. Except he lied in 2018. Kind of like that GOP Governor of Vermont (Phil Scott) that ran on no new gun laws and then signed a bunch of gun control post-Parkland.
In 2001 they gave Mississippi voters a direct vote on it, and that was the position the current Republican Governor took in 2018, that if it was to change it'd have to be at the ballot box.
This time, absolutely no direct vote allowed, almost like they were scared out of their minds it'd win again.

This is blood in the water for the left. They will now be in a frenzy demanding all kinds of other outrageous changes, affecting all citizens. If the stupid legislature and governor thought that this would placate the barbarians, they have a hell of a lot to learn.

That does not appear to be an option for Mississippi voters. There is no option to keep that flag that existed until this afternoon. Then it is anti democratic. The people are always the final voice. If they want the flag put back, it will be put back.

Ping me when they raise that old Mississippi Flag over the University of Mississippi and at the State Capitol.

Mississippi, like Esau sold their birth right for a bowl of stew. Esau's was a literal bowl. Mississippi's bowl was figurative. Mississippi now basks secure that they have appeased and satisfied the Dragon now and forever more. In that they have only fooled and deluded themselves. Because very soon the Dragon will be back with his hand out demanding more and more. Neville Chamberlain and others through history have learned this the hard way. Now, the State of Mississippi is about to.

No, it won’t. They’re voting on some new flag, with a simple “yes” or “no.”
The 1894-2020 flag will not be on the ballot. Same deal in Georgia back in 2003, they don’t want it to win.

Yes, the voters of Mississippi can elect a new governor and a new legislature and make the old flag the official once again.
However, I would not bet on that.
