Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul on Tuesday ripped into Dr. Anthony Fauci and what he called government central planners during a hearing on COVID-19 response, asserting that Americans should not be sheep and that US schools should reopen.
It is a fatal conceit to believe any one person or small group of people has the knowledge necessary to direct an economy or dictate public health behavior. I think government experts need to show caution in their prognostications, Paul, a Republican and libertarian, told the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee hearing featuring the Trump administrations top coronavirus experts.
Its important to realize that if society meekly submits to an expert and that expert is wrong, a great deal of harm may occur when we allow one mans policy or one group of small men and women to be foisted on an entire nation, Paul continued.
Take for example government experts who continue to call for schools and day care to stay closed or that recommend restrictions that make it impossible for a school to function. There are examples from all across the United States and around the world that show that young children rarely spread the virus, he asserted, pointing to countries that have reopened, including Denmark, France and Germany.
No spike when schools are opened. Central planners have enough knowledge somehow to tell a nation of some 330 million people what they can and cant do, he said.
We shouldnt presume that a group of experts somehow knows whats best for everyone. Only decentralized power and decision-making based on millions of individualized situations can arrive at what risk and behaviors each individual will choose. Thats what America was founded on, not a herd with Washington telling us what to do and like sheep we blindly follow.

Trump needs to be out there every day pushing back against this just as hard as Sen. Paul does in that video.
Yet for some reason he does not.
Fauci is quite a powerful little bureaucrat.
Glad you enjoyed the video. This was Rand at his best. No other senator would do this!
The last time Fauci was before this committee I emailed Rand a list of questions to ask him. None of mine were, probably because I don’t live in Kentucky so my message went to File 13. I thought Rand went too easy on him last time. Not so today.
I would love to see a live debate between the two. Having a doctor by one’s name seems to make them impervious to criticism.
No, the government schools should all be permanently closed. Anyone who wants them open is a commie.
Homeschool!
I was skeptical of that little weasel a week after he appeared on the scene. Now, I am convinced Fauci is as anti-America as George Soros.
Trump should have ditched Fauci a long time ago. Disappointing that Fauci is still the spokesperson for what we should do. Trump really needs to give a prime time address and get a handle on all of this.
Mr. Cuomo....Promotes abortion and killing grandma, too.
The percent is higher than 2/3 of all deaths being in nursing homes in at least Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.
It’s amazing how many people do not get that part.
It is a fatal conceit to believe any one person or small group of people has the knowledge necessary to direct an economy or dictate public health behavior.”
“Fatal conceit.” I love that. It describes Fauci perfectly.
“one group of small men and women”
I LOLed at that. I wondered if he actually meant “one small group of men and women”, and he twisted his words. In any case, the way it came out is perfect. Fauci = small man.
Fauci is out there testifying that we may see more infections etc. Yet it is Fauci who heads the department and Faucci who is the so called expert and it is Fauci dictating our response.
Did anyone ask Fauci what went wrong, where did he make mistakes?
Glad you enjoyed it .. Rand can really shreds his opponents when he wants. Doesn’t happen often but its glorious when he’s in the mood :)
Yeah it doesn’t add up. He just wants more power over states I think. He lusts for power.
