Yet again. The only mechanical plus for masks is reducing the spreading of the wearers exhalations. On the intake side of the equation, it’s a waste of time. So if you want to make people FEEL safe from your spewage, wear one. If YOU feel like it. Virus don’t care about no steenkin’ masks.
_____________
Here’s what I don’t get. If the mask can’t prevent the virus from getting through your mask, how can it prevent your exhalations from getting through?
#7 Stop thinking!
You must obey!
It can’t.
See the problem here?
It’s a charade to find out how easily we can all be subjected to an arbitrary “social norm”.
Reduces the velocity and projection factor. As far as the virus sneaking out. Not so much.
It does not, but your exhaled virus cells do not travel as far if you cough or sneeze inside a mask. Without a mask your sneeze can spread virus 15 feet away as airborne. With mask on, may be 2 to 3 feet.
I think the idea is stops droplets spreading so far (think trying to blow away some dust with a mask versus without).
The down side is you may end up breathing back some of virus you just exhaled (assuming you have the virus).
I think for crowded situations (such as packed subway cars) they may be of some value in slowing transmission.

They say that farts can spread CV19 and most people are shielded with several layers of cloth in that area.
