When conservatives play the "Democrats were the real racists" game, they're just letting the Left dictate the ground rules and parameters of the discussion. By saying "Yes, we agree that [fill in the blank] is racist and bad...just don't forget to mention that he was a Democrat", conservatives are basically agreeing with the Left's premise that someone deserves to be dishonored because he's perceived as "racist" by today's politically correct criteria.
I'm not willing to grant the Left the moral high ground of accepting their moral criteria, whether the historical figure they're attacking was a Democrat, a Republican, or a member of no political party at all.

It’s always a silly argument because parties shift over time.
In the 50s Southern Democrats were much more conservative than Northeastern Republicans.

Exactly - Dixiecrats were well to the right of Rockefeller Republicans. It just so happens that today there are no conservative Democrats left and no very liberal (but plenty of moderately liberal, unfortunately) Republicans.
People who make some sort of fetish out of political parties are morons. Dinesh D'Souza is a perfect example of this mindset, i.e. "J.C. Calhoun is the same as Chuck Schumer because they're both DEMOCRATS!" Unfortunately, D'Souza has a sizeable following around here.

That's all that ChiCom Money talking. Counterexamples: Timothy Leary and G.B. Trudeau of Doonesbury fame.
Also Lothrop Stoddard, who was a Harvard PhD who actually visited Nazi Germany and visited a German court which decided which people would be involuntarily sterilized. Far from being scandalized, he thought they were too conservative in their opinions: he said that the eugenics laws were being administered with strict regard for its provisions and that, if anything, judgments were almost too conservative, and that the law was weeding out the worst strains in the Germanic stock in a scientific and truly humanitarian way. (Yes, its from Wikipedia, but the quotes are linked to books from Oxford University Press and University of Vermont press, with ISBNs which check out. Incidentally, the photo of Stoddard on Wikipedia bears an uncanny resemblance to Snidely Whiplash.)

Not that I support Wilson’s ideas but do all those people who gave money to fund the Woodrow Wilson Institute get their money back? Not bloody likely.

Exactly. Though Id say Wilson (and TR) are really the linchpins of changeover for the parties. TR the last statist Rep, Wilson the first statist Dem.

Google Leland Stanford and what he thought of Chinese.
I think Stanford named his college after his son. Don’t know what Jr. thought of the Chinese.

My daughter graduated from the Woody Wilson School in 2004.
Entered "red" ...exited "purple". Tried an intervention even. LOL!

Holy crap.
The western railroads were built on the backs of imported Chinese near-slave labor.
And Stanford was a railroad baron.

My point was Stanford named the university after his son, who died at the age of 15. Since he died in Florence, Italy, he no doubt “had privilege”, but I don’t know that’s enough ‘sin’ to cause the University to change its name.
