County Covid numbers jump 13.5% in 72 hours, but sheriff won't enforce mask order

WENTWORTH — As Rockingham County’s reported COVID-19 cases jumped by 13.5% in three days, Sheriff Sam Page announced on Friday that he will not enforce Gov. Roy Cooper’s executive order requiring citizens to wear masks in public.

Page further said he will not enforce crowd limits on wedding receptions, despite the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services’ opinion that such events should be limited.

Though the state doesn’t limit the number of people who can attend a wedding or funeral, it doesn’t list receptions as part of the exemption to its mass-gathering limits.

The state allows no more than 10 people to gather together indoors and no more than 25 to congregate outdoors, as part of the state’s Phase Two reopening plan.

“Marriage is covered under the religious exemption (a protection under the First Amendment). Wedding reception is part of the ceremony … We will not be enforcing the gathering limits for wedding receptions as a result,’’ said Sgt. Kevin Suthard, public information officer for the sheriff’s office.

“Buy seriously, you want to fight a constitutional battle over putting on a face mask in an indoor place or on transit and washing your hands? Do you hear how stupid you sound?”

Do you hear how stupid you sound?

Huh - such a spike in the last 3 days... i wonder what happened about 2 weeks ago that would cause this...

More testing = More numbers of asymptomatic cases. As a result the math continues to move the mortality rate lower and lower. Instead of reporting this result, the media continues the panic push.

Understand that at this point, the panic about COVID-19 and the Biden campaign are inextricably attached at the hip. Biden can only win this election if the Democrats and their corrupt media can keep the public in a panic and cowering in their homes through November.

A return to lockdowns is key to everything: It keeps Trump from holding the massive rallies that were the key to his winning in 2016; it justifies Biden’s continued strategy of hiding in his basement and being physically seen by as few Americans as possible; it helps to build a rationale for a national vote-by-mail scheme which in turn would maximize voter fraud efforts by the Democrats; and it serves as media justification for canceling face-to-face, unscripted debates between the candidates.

By the way, I took the LSAT for law school FOR FUN.

Why doesn’t President Donald Trump just issue executive orders to make everyone do stuff? Ever notice not a single executive order is on any non-government employee? He only commands his employees and enforceable orders are those that are subservient to the Constitution, laws, and regulations that are passed by the consent if Congress.

Trump can’t even go outside of those.

Guess what? Your governor can’t either.

You obviously have no idea how the law enforces health Department orders that have been on the statute books for at least 150 years.

Covid 19 is not the first communicable disease. How do you think society dealt with smallpox, cholera, TB, diphtheria, rhubella, whooping cough, yellow fever, etc. do you think they asked for voluntary compliance with quarantines? No. Those laws have been on the books for as long as the states have existed.

The problem with most of these would be conservative FR posters is that they have no familiarity with history. They are too busy being knee jerk fools to actually think anything through. Their short sighted irrational gut reactions just mark them as ignorant and uneducated.

Based on the set of circumstances including fighting a serious virus that has shut down an economy right now and trying to get out back open, no.

Cases mean nothing because they can only come around via testing. Hospital admissions AND CONDITIONS and DEATHS is what we need.

You don’t understand. Until now, all quarantines only affected THOSE WITH INFECTIONS. There has never been a mass order against anyone not infected. THERE IS NO LAW FOR THIS. There is no health code around this.

All governors or the president can do is “encourage.”

Get your head out and read your history and law.

This virus never shut down our economy. For that to happen, people would truly need to be too sick to work.

No, this economy was shut down by threats made by government without laws to back them. Even President Trump has never made an Executive Order to make anyone do anything not a government employee. Why? Because Executive Orders cannot cover non-federal employees.

Every two-bit governor and mayor is hoping no one pushed back on their true “paper tiger” power. When churches filed against the Illinois governor, he removed his edict against churches having services four hours before the US Supreme Court was to rule.

I wonder why the county doesn’t make that info easily available.

wouldn’ t want people to be able to make informed decisions about where to go, whether to wear a mask, etc. it seems. Information about other stats such as which underlying conditions have led to hospitalization ICU or death would also help. Instead we get stats on race which are not very helpful, more a reason for complaint.

Roger that. I see people touching their face and outside of their mask all the time. I will further wager they are not washing their hands frequently. That's why I got one of these before the hammer fell and the prices started to rise.

Now just slip on a black Shemagh with a Bedouin wrap for stores. Looks like a ISIS commercial. Sometimes just use the Shemagh as a head wrap and don't set it up as a face mask. It intimidates the Liberals and uses their inherent bigotry against them.

Legally speaking of course you are simply wrong.

The proof that these guys hve the legal authority to make these stay at home orders is the FACT that NOT ONE lawsuit has been filed and won where it was alleged that public health and governors do not hve the legal authority to take such actions.

Keep in mind, their legal authority is totally separate from whether it was a good idea, or an idea that even worked. We Are speaking solely on the legal authority. Your statement that there is no law is simply wrong. There is a number of laws aNd every state has them. And if you actually read the governors orders they cite those laws for any moron to read and see for themselves tht a criminal penalty attaches to violating those orders. Most of the orders specifically state that the violation is a crime.

Feel free to make the argument that stay at home orders dont work. But the courts have already stated over and over again that the orders are valid. The only times the orders are not valid is when they discriminate for no good reason, or the purpose is unnecessary or too extreme. But those are different arguments than whether the government can impose health code restrictions.

They do not have the legal authority.

Do you believe your governor, mayor, or president can singly rule that it is a misdemeanor or felony if you are healthy and don’t wear a mask when there is no law passed?

Almost no cases are moving forward at this time. Courts have been shut down through this and cases are not moving forward, nearly everywhere. A divorce of someone I know from March has been backburnered until past August at this point, with the likelihood it could happen in December, according to the court.

No law covers this and your pleading otherwise has no merit and you’ve offered no proof.

I didn’t copy and paste anything. Are you referring to my spelling mistake that I caught after I sent my post? If yes, it can be a problem with me, especially when I am trying to reply from my phone. Sorry about that.
