For decades both teams would get so excited to play the Civil War

And now all the sudden it is persona non grata

Sickness

As someone who attended both schools, I never liked calling that game the Civil War anyway. Not because of any racist connotation (never even imagined such a thing, in fact), but because it trivializes the Civil War.

Perhaps the all time best—November 21, 1981 when two 1-9 teams battled it out for the Pac-10 basement.

Wait until they discover that Lane County (where the University of Oregon is located) is named after the VP on the Southern Democratic Ticket of 1860.

I can easily distinguish between a football game and the Civil War. That’s my point.

Ignorance...

the Civil War was fought to end slavery...

The War between the States AKA the War of Northern Aggression was fought for states rights and for a few land owning Southerners to continue slavery...
