Historic monuments and statues have become the targets of anger and vandalism during protests
President Trump announced Friday that he signed an executive order to protect American monuments, memorials and statues and threatened those who try to pull them down with “long prison time.”
“I just had the privilege of signing a very strong Executive Order protecting American Monuments, Memorials, and Statues - and combatting recent Criminal Violence,” Trump tweeted. “Long prison terms for these lawless acts against our Great Country!”
The new order enforces laws prohibiting the desecration of public monuments, the vandalism of government property, and recent acts of violence, withholds federal support tied to public spaces from state and local governments that have failed to protect public monuments, and withdraws federal grants for jurisdictions and law enforcement agencies that fail to stop their desecration.
It also provides assistance for protecting the federal statues.
Meanwhile on Friday evening, Attorney General Bill Barr directed the creation of a task force to counter anti-government extremists, specifically naming those who support the far-right “boogaloo” movement and those who identify as Antifa.
The task force will be headed by Craig Carpenito, the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, and Erin Nealy Cox, U.S. Attorney for the district of Northern Texas, and will be composed of U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, the FBI and other relevant departments, according to a press release. The group will share information with local and state law enforcement and will provide training on identifying anti-government extremists, according to an internal Justice Department memo.
The president has been teasing his order related to memorials all week, as historic monuments and statues have become the targets of anger and vandalism during Black Lives Matter protests in the wake of George Floyd's police custody death in Minneapolis at end of May.

Amazing the American people have stooped so low (not you or me——them) that they have to have a special action by the President to stop them from vandalism, destruction, ruining publicly owned statues and so on. That’s all new to them?
It’s already being enforced....just the news media is ignoring those arrested and charged. Which actually is a good thing.

This is a joke... right? Dozens in the Obama administration should have long prison terms. After four years, no one has been arrested.

I’m cynical. These acts are all taking place in RAT controlled blue states. Even if the police find their courage and arrest some of the little darlings, whatever RAT Judge they’re brought before will simply apologize to them and let them go.

A Presidential order of this kind only applies to Federal property, so the cases would be prosecuted as Federal crimes, not as a disorderly persons offense in some fourth-rate municipal court.

Funny that in the days of Masters of Deceit by J. Edgar Hoover -- 1958 (in which furtive American Communists parked blocks away so no neighbors would connect them going to secret cell meetings) through the novel and movie Advise and Consent (1962) (in which the Henry Fonda character sheepishly tells the President he is withdrawing from Sec. of State confirmation hearings consideration when his leftist university group meetings were exposed meaning he is a Commie sympathizer.)
Today they'd say "next time share a ride to the leftist Squad meeting" and "You brag about being close to Bernie Sanders but how much socialist agenda work did you really do for him?"
