COVID-19 cases are spiking across Southern and Western states just as rising summer temperatures are drawing people indoors to seek relief in the air conditioning. But can air conditioning facilitate the spread of the coronavirus?
The question comes as states are allowing indoor businesses to reopen, as well as allow increasingly large gatherings of people. But concerns about air conditioning are making their way into reopening policies in some states.
Full coverage of the coronavirus outbreak
Theres some reports that malls, bars, certain social clubs with air conditioning, that air conditioning may not be cleansing the air of the virus, just recirculating the air with the virus. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a briefing Wednesday. Malls and gyms will not be a part of New Yorks phase four reopening because of this concern.

Apparently the A/C in his office is unicorny magically removing covid as is the A/C at Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, grocery stores, hospitals, doctors offices and possibly people's homes.
Mods, title should be Does Air Conditioning Spread the Coronovirus? Cut and paste error. Something similar was posted in April, but Cuomo is specifically blaming A/C in businesses he has under artificial lockdown.
Thanks for your post on this. I tend to get more colds when I am in an air conditioning environment all the time. Thus, this article makes sense to me.
I guess it could be spread through the ventilation systems of all casinos targeting the seniors. Hey, why not...those useless eaters are draining our socialist security placate program. After all, we’re here to help the eugenicists.

CHYna shows us how to run our “Charter of Negative Liberties”, right Zeke? It’s less threatening than “death panels”.
CHYna is azzhole. LOOK at them.
Well wasn’t there an apartment building in China where the virus spread from flat to flat view common ventilation?
And locking people in their homes for 4 months with stale air is going to have some bad respiratory effects.
True. However Cuomo is stating that it is only spread selectiveily in the businesses he wants to keep shut down.
Similar to saying that Trump rallies spread the virus but “BLM/Antifa Peaceful Protesters” (TM) do not.
I had coworkers in February-March who didn’t believe me when I predicted that we might see only curbside pickup of groceries (since many grocers in my city already offer this). Also they are slowly rolling out driverless car delivery of groceries here.
My primary interaction with anyone else is grocery shopping or for the past month work at the office with a very reduced staff (less than 5% onsite). Since the lockdowns in March I’ve eaten out (not just picked up takeout) maybe twice.
I’ve been to a park with a friend twice.
I’m doing what I can to get sunlight and fresh air every week.
This got pointed out in the past week, with a massive outbreak in Germany...at a meat-processing plant. Plant has big-time AC within the facility. Problem as the investigators were looking at the system....almost no real filtering system.
I might see this in some US situations, but we seem to always put in a filtering system in most buildings.
GO OUTSIDE....Get some sun and fresh air!!
Living in a bubble is not a solution.
And I'll say it again...You don't quarantine well people.
I started going back to my gym. Very few people. It is too hard to keep masks on when at maximum effort. Too much carbon dioxide build up so most drop mask during peak excercises.
I figure it is pretty safe for me even though I am over 60. I assume sick people are not exercising and the overall infection rates are pretty low.
“””Theres some reports....”””
Another anonymous source used by Fake News Media to push their latest covid panic agenda.
Why should anyone believe what any journalist writes?
After all, these journalists are the people who foolishly paid a lot money to get a journalism degree and when they get their coveted diploma, these newly minted journalists find that reporter jobs pay the same as flipping hamburgers at Wendy’s.
Bottom line: Journalists are not smart people.
“Apparently the A/C in his office is unicorny magically removing covid”
And hospitals everywhere?
Yes, they have some zones that use 100% outside air, where the air is conditioned and flows though only once and is exhausted to the outside using lots of energy.
Typically about 15% outside air is continuously added and exhausted.
In most single-family homes the air change is determined by what leaks out.
The left has found its new control meme.
It is too hard to keep masks on when at maximum effort.
Out on the cycling paths I used to see riders wearing ‘altitude masks’ to restrict the airflow!
IMO it was a fad that has passed.
Maybe it has made a massive comeback?

More for the herd.
Sometimes you will see secondary flu seasons in the summer in the South. And in this case influenza cases have also gone up. And it’s that severe bug (H1N1) from this winter that mimics Covid.
It was my understanding that the Virus spreads easiest and fastest by watching TELEVISION!!
Meanwhile malls Have been open in Connecticut since late May and movie theaters a gym is just reopened, so much for that regional approach Cuomo was talking about
I agree with you about the fresh air and being outside, and we can do it quite safely too.
