The Medical Center released the most aggressive COVID model to date, showing base ICU base capacity full by Saturday, and surge capacity exhausted by July 8 if current rates of hospitalization persist.
A TMC model also predicts ICU surge capacity extra, temporary beds and equipment used in emergencies could be exceeded as soon as July 6 if the steep rate of new COVID hospitalizations continues, the most aggressive modeling to date.
Eleven leaders of the systems member hospitals and medical schools said in a joint statement that COVID-related admissions were increasing at an alarming rate, stretching the capacity of ICU units. Texas Childrens Hospital this week began admitting adult patients to handle the surge.
If this trend continues, our hospital system capacity will become overwhelmed, leading us to make difficult choices of delaying much-needed non-COVID care to accommodate a greater number of COVID patients, the group wrote.

“The rest of the damned hospital is empty. How hard is it to convert another floor to and ICU wing? You have doctors and nurses sitting on their asses contemplating their navels.”
Yea there should be no reason to panic. This virus is not hitting all of the USA at one time. We have plenty of ventilators and supplies ready to go. All they have to do is ask and the USA government will step into help.
They need to stay calm, breath in breath out. stay calm..
” increase in capacity was affected by all of the returning regular patients which were prohibited to enter the hospitals previously because of Covid 19. It is all BS.”
It is BS, our local hospital system dedicated one hospital for the upstate for Covid-19, the rest handles normal patients.
But how many of those patients will have no insurance, Medicare or Medicaid, or be illegal aliens? Or does the gov still reimburse at those rates for everyone?
Houston, Austin, Dallas, etc. are Progressive ghettos. The rulers are with the help of leftist doctors and administrators admitting everyone they can even if only for observation. The governor is going to have to send in some investigators to check out this leftist scam.
I feel like Cassandra here, saying this again and again. The disease is real, it’s lethal — and not just to the old and infirm — and pretending it isn’t will do two things: lose us our moral high ground as the side who stands for the sanctity of life and B: get Joe Biden elected. We, as a movement, have lost our minds.
What do you expect when every COVID patient has been promised “all bills paid in full”?
All uninsured U07.1 diagnosis receive reimbursement regardless of insurance status per the HEROES act
I’ve never seen a city with more hospital beds than Houston. Seriously. No way they’re at capacity. If there’s really a problem, Trump can just send over a boat like he did for L.A. and NYC.
This will be fun to watch.
All those bodies stacked outside in a Houston high humidity summer.
You will want a mask then!
Sure, just slap them in a vent and leave them alone for a week. Thatll work.
Yeah, wear a freakin mask and wash your hands.
Two things the Texans on FR refuse to do. So...this is what happens. Laughing my ass off here in New England.
The rate of reimbursement is minuscule compared to the cost.
But everyone here thinks $39k will cover a 14 day ICU stay. The FR assessment of medical costs and Medicare reimbursements is, on a good day, retarded sliding down to imbecilic.
How about $39k for an 10 day ICU stay?
What a bargain that is!
Never been to Texas, but strongly suspect that the folks there wash their hands.
So are private insurers paying anything for COVID-19 hospitalizations?
I think that private insurance has to pick up the tab for their insured. The complaint from the AHA was that pandemic indigent care would cause hospitals economic ruin, so there was legislation that essentially granted universal care to CoVID patients
Ive been to Texas a bunch of times.
I am not so sure. Ha ha.
