Yes I recall that being the case as well. They developed some rear-view mirror butthurt when Bruce Lee started complaining about being passed over for the role in favor of Carradine (which admittedly is a questionable call on its face). A few years later Ross Martin made a Charlie Chan film and the blowback over his being a white guy was so intense that film was never released.
