South Korea says Bolton’s claims on Trump-Kim summit distorted

SEOUL — Former national security adviser John Bolton's account of nuclear talks between the United States and the two Koreas is incorrect and distorted, Seoul's Presidential Office said Monday, echoing the Trump administration's accusations against the soon-to-be-published exposé by the former top aide.

In his new memoir giving a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Washington’s foreign affairs dealings, Bolton describes how President Trump’s engagement with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un failed to achieve its goal of getting North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons.

Bolton’s tell-all account of the 17 months he served as Trump’s national security adviser has made waves not only in Washington but also among diplomatic partners of the United States, as excerpts from the book were released in media reports over the past days.

Chung Eui-yong, national security adviser to South Korean President Moon Jae-in, accused Bolton of “being inaccurate” in his memoir and “distorting the reality.”

“Unilaterally revealing discussions made based on mutual trust among states violates the fundamental principles of diplomacy and could undermine future negotiations,” Chung said in a statement via a presidential spokesman.

Chung did not specify which parts of Bolton’s memoir he claimed were inaccurate or distorted. Chung said he expects Washington to take appropriate action against such a “dangerous precedent” set by Bolton’s exposé, which he said could undermine the mutual interests of the United States and its ally, South Korea.

Like a lot of big shots, Bolton overestimated his importance.

Soon he will regret that he ever wrote this book.

Not so sure about that. People like Bolton are never ashamed or embarrassed, and in his neocon circle of war pigs, he will be cheered.

Probably right. And Rick Wilson, Bill Kristol, Jebra, and Mitt will invite Bolton to join them on the hate-Trump speaker circuit.

Hope the DOJ is successful in preventing Bolton from receiving one penny form the sale of this book even if they can’t stop the publication. Others that have written these alleged tell-all books have been denied the money.

Did anyone talk to China? To verify if Trump begged for Xi’s help to win reelection?

He broke a contract. Why isn’t he sued? Make an example out of him.

It's true Bolton believes he's a visionary and he's angry Trump acted independently and didn't follow his advice. There are lots of Rasputins in the Trump administration who believe they know what's best and who leave fuming Trump ignored them.

Bolton is a neo-con. He's the hero of the Never-Trump movement.

He's set for life earning top dollar giving speeches at neo-con Never-Trump hate-fests.

They love to hear him dish gossip on Trump. Bill Kristol and other will elevate him to the status of superstar.

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump

I gave John Bolton, who was incapable of being Senate confirmed because he was considered a wacko, and was not liked, a chance. I always like hearing differing points of view. He turned out to be grossly incompetent, and a liar. See judge’s opinion. CLASSIFIED INFORMATION!!!

The fact is, people like Bolton and his crew, and those in congress attacking Trump are what destroyed the chance to end the Korean War and break things wide open the way Trump tried.

Kim correctly assessed that any deal with Trump would last only a few months if he was impeached. He knew that Trumps own staff opposed him. Much as he wanted that deal too, he knew it was pointless and would be immediately abrogated when Trump was gone. See also the Bush deal with Kaddafy.

The damage Bolton and Congress did to our nation is incalculable.

Bolton obviously never cared about real U.S. interests - just the importance of his own ideas and seeing them achieve status in U.S. policies.

His book obviously was never intended to concern itself with real U.S. interests either. Betraying those interests in classified matters, still ongoing, between the U.S. and its allies and adversaries was not Bolton’s concern.

This is Bolton’s last hurrah.

Working with Trump was his last chance to ever have a foreign policy role in any U.S. administration. No Dim would ever accept him and now no Republican will either.

Bolton blew it, and he knows it and knows he’s finished in Washington D.C. for good. Thus the book.
